Colorful Hoover Walk Mural Sees Light of Day in Franklin Hills

Sick of the constant graffiti tagging along Hoover Walk, a cement staircase at the north end of Hoover St., just below Prospect Ave., residents of Franklin Hills took action. It took years to do, but with the help of the city and the will of the community, Muralist Ricardo Mendoza's colorful artwork will be officially dedicated tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the neighborhood, Councilman Tom LaBonge and Mendoza.

After weeks of speculation, Tangier will shut its doors for the final time Saturday night. It is not known what will replace the restaurant/bar at 2138 Hillhurst, which is in escrow, according to the Daily Dish. In an effort to further community relations, LAPD's Northeast Division is hosting their community open house today from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Along with meeting officers and councilmembers, there will be displays by the Bomb Squad, K-9 Unit, LAPD Dispatch Communications, SWAT and others.

Sometimes you see rock tonight and sometimes you want to be rock tonight. If the latter, every Wednesday night at the Hyperion Tavern in the Los Feliz/Franklin Hills area, groups of friends gather to unite as one, to test their skills, woo the crowd and find their glory in Rock Band. Wednesday nights at the shack filled with chandeliers used to be reserved for Guitar Hero zealots, now groups of four can hit the stage and cheer the crowd or get booed off stage.

William Jones is an experimental filmmaker and photographer. While he primarily focuses on issues of gay identity, he's always keen to document his fascination with film and music subcultures. In 2004, he made the film Is It Really So Strange, a documentary about the SoCal subculture of Morrissey devotees. William's work has been displayed all over the world, including England, Brazil, Austria, Slovenia and Singapore. An exhibit of his videos will open at David Kordansky Gallery on June 2, 2006.
