It's almost as if he's on a mission to see how much music one person can fit in their brain without it rupturing. A founding member of Foreign Born with Lewis Pesacov, Popieluch also plays in Pesacov's band Fools Gold, his girlfriend Cameron Mesirow's band Glasser, and now has decided to start a side project Big Search. In an e-mail early, early, early this morning, McCabe's announced something unexpected: The Swell Season will be playing tomorrow night in the guitar shop's intimate performance space. You may not recognize the band's name, but you know them as Irish singer Glen Hansard and Czech pianist Marketa Irglova from the movie Once. The gig got booked serendipitously yesterday when Glen brought his guitar into the shop for repair. The LA Times reports that local indie stalwarts Dim Mak Records has made a deal with Downtown Music (Gnarls Barkley, Cold War Kids, Art Brut, Justice) in which Dim Mak will continue to discover and develop new artists, and Downtown will give them that boost in distribution and promotion that Dim Mak has never been fortunate enough to be able to offer.
