Tonight, the month-long "Also I Like to Rock" free concert series kicks off at the Hammer Museum. Curated by Buzz Bands' Kevin Bronson and KCRW, the scheduled lineup is as follows:

And, lastly, Geneva Garvin, an experimental electro songstress who performs under the pseudonym Geneva Jacuzzi, will be gracing the Echo for this week's edition of Part Time Punks. But we strongly suggest heading over to Myra Avenue at Santa Monica Boulevard and North Hoover Avenue where the first ever Silver Lake Jubilee, a two-day community festival which features a bevy of twenty-some-odd local bands each day, will be coming to a close. LAist favorites, local indie rock outfit Foreign Born (LAist Interview, Review) and all-female, retro 60s pop rock quartet The Like (LAist Review, #2, #3) are slated to headline.
25 Reasons Why Silver Lake Jubilee Is Going to ROCK
Like a pre-teen who just got a hold of his first Playboy, looking at the list of bands playing the Silver Lake Jubilee makes us hyperventilate. The question is of course, what should you see? With such a plethora of names and genres, how do you know where to go? Fear not! We have put together a list of a dozen bands per day that you simply must see. As usual we've included a list of tunes so you can judge for yourself and more importantly set times of when they go on!
Foreign Born, Small Black, Washed Out, Yacht @ The Echo & Echoplex 03/26/10
Last Friday evening LAist photographer Simon Cardoza made an unprecedented hundred-foot journey between the Echo and the Echoplex, capturing local indie rock outfit Foreign Born (LAist Interview, Review), Portland's own experimental electronic duo YACHT (LAist Interview, Review), Georgia-by-way-of-South Carolina dream-pop maestro Washed Out and Small Black all in one night!

And, lastly, local indie rock outfit...
LAist Interview: Matt Popieluch of Foreign Born
It's a wonder Matt Popieluch's head doesn't explode with all of the music that's crammed in there. It's almost as if he's on a mission to see how much music one person can fit in their brain without it rupturing. A founding member of Foreign Born with Lewis Pesacov, Popieluch also plays in Pesacov's band Fools Gold, his girlfriend Cameron Mesirow's band Glasser, and now has decided to start a side project Big Search. All while working a day job as a groundskeeper in Coldwater Canyon Park. He must be secretly powered by something. Caffiene? Speed? A nuclear reactor? A mixture of the three? We caught up with him last night to find out which one it is.
Tonight In Rock: Mother Mother, Evan Way, Le Switch, Firs
Tonight Parson Red Heads front man Evan Way will be performing at the Echo with Fleet Foxes drummer J. Tillman and Foreign Born side-project Big Search. Local indie rockers Le Switch will be gracing Cinema Bar in Studio City. And, lastly, LA-based singer-songwriter Firs will be taking on the Silver Lake Lounge. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch Canadian indie rock quintet Mother Mother.
Tonight In Rock: Gillian Welch, Foreign Born, Son Volt, The Very Best
Tonight Nashville-based bluegrass troubadour Gillian Welch will be performing with very special guests at Largo at the Coronet. Saint Louis-bred alt-rockers Son Volt will be performing at the Wiltern, opening for none other than Canada's own Cowboy Junkies. And, lastly, the Very Best, a fledgling musical amalgam comprised of London based production duo Radioclit and Malawi-bred crooner Esau Mwamwaya, will be performing at the Echoplex with Rainbow^Arabia in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the UCLA's Hammer Museum to catch local indie rock outfit Foreign Born (LAist Review), who will be performing for this week's edition of Also I Like to Rock. LAist favorites Warpaint (LAist Review, #2, #3) are slated to kick things off.
Tonight In Rock: Laura Veirs, Foreign Born, Avi Buffalo, Spirit Vine
Tonight Long Beach/Los Alamitos natives Avi Buffalo (LAist Interview, Review) will be performing at the Airliner in Lincoln Heights. (Canceled!) LAist favorites Foreign Born (LAist Review) will be gracing the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa with none other than English rockers the Veils. And, lastly, New Zealand-based rock outfit the Datsuns will be taking on Spaceland with locals Spirit Vine in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hotel Café to catch Portland-based songstress Laura Veirs. LAist favorites Mike Viola (LAist Interview) and Luluc will be performing as well.
Week In Rock: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Foreign Born, Nosaj Thing, The Very Best
This week local buzz band Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros will be performing in-store at Amoeba Music in Hollywood in conjunction with the release of their debut album, Up From Below. LA-based electronic mastermind Nosaj Thing is poised to headline the Airliner. The Very Best, a fledgling musical amalgam comprised of London based production duo Radioclit and Malawi-bred crooner Esau Mwamwaya, will be performing at the Echoplex with Rainbow^Arabia in tow. And, lastly, local indie rock outfit Foreign Born (LAist Review) are slated to grace UCLA's Hammer Museum for this week's edition of Also I Like to Rock. Québécois indie rockers Sunset Rubdown, which began as a solo project for Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, will be headlining the Echoplex. LA's finest pop rockers the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) are poised to grace On The Rox at the Roxy in Hollywood with the Boat People and the Picture. And, lastly, Sydney-based electro pop sensation Sneaky Sound System will be performing at Cinespace. But we strongly suggest heading over to your friendly vinyl vendor Vacation to catch local indie rock outfit Foreign Born, who will be ringing in their second full length to date—2009's Person to Person.
Alexandra Hope, VOICEsVOICEs, EXITMUSIC & Warpaint @ The Smell, 5/6/09
Earlier this month, LA-Underground co-presented a showcase, with KXLU and Manimal Vinyl, at The Smell in Downtown LA, featuring Alexandra Hope, VOICEsVOICEs, EXITMUSIC, and Warpaint.

Melbourne's own electro pop buzz band Cut Copy are poised to headline the Henry Fonda Music Box with Brooklyn-based duo Matt & Kim in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch Danish glitch rockers Efterklang. LA-based indie rock outfit Eulogies are slated to kick the show off.
Tonight in Rock: Van Hunt, Grand Ole Party, St. Vincent
In an e-mail early, early, early this morning, McCabe's announced something unexpected: The Swell Season will be playing tomorrow night in the guitar shop's intimate performance space. You may not recognize the band's name, but you know them as Irish singer Glen Hansard and Czech pianist Marketa Irglova from the movie Once. The gig got booked serendipitously yesterday when Glen brought his guitar into the shop for repair. Of course, the bad news here is that tickets sold out quickly, probably before the light of day hit. Tonight, McCabe's presents Jackshit, who we interviewed here on LAist last August.
Dim Mak Teams Up With Downtown Music
The LA Times reports that local indie stalwarts Dim Mak Records has made a deal with Downtown Music (Gnarls Barkley, Cold War Kids, Art Brut, Justice) in which Dim Mak will continue to discover and develop new artists, and Downtown will give them that boost in distribution and promotion that Dim Mak has never been fortunate enough to be able to offer. Sounds like a deal that could make everyone happy.

CD Review: Foreign Born's "On The Wing Now:
Artist: Foreign Born Album: On The Wing Now Label: Dim Mak Release Date: 8/21/07 Listen to the track "Letter of Inclusion" While all of Foreign Born's members may not be native sons of LA, they are emissaries of a Silver Lake music scene with their own, almost classic, West Coast flavor. "Almost classic" because the era of the Beach Boys, and the Mamas and the Poppas (and to a lesser extent the Eagles) is now...

With indie rock mainstays Devotchka, Oh No! Oh My!, Foreign Born, Snowden, Illinois, The Black Angels, St. Vincent, and Thee More Shallows, how can one really go wrong? Well, quite simply by not publicizing your festival enough. My experience swerving was a little disconcerting, mainly because of the poor turnout. It's my turn to take a stab at this whole Swerve Festival. Everything seemed perfect on paper (the music, the art, the film, and the...

So here's a wrap up of all 37 shows we reviewed this month, with links to the posts just in case you missed it. Chris...
The Rapture @ The Mayan 07/26/07
The Rapture blew everyone away with stage presence that rivals the Rolling Stones. It was all high fives, fist pumps... even crowd surfing and a mosh pit. The Mayan is a cool venue too, with trap doors, secret passages, and tribal decor. It's like watching a concert in the middle of "Indiana Jones and the Temples of Doom".
