Initially separate--though not equal, by a longshot--last year's inaugural Food & Wine Taste of Beverly Hills has merged with the Los Angeles Times' Celebration of Food and Wine and their spawn is called The Taste. The event will be a four-day celebration of epicurean delights, showcasing local chefs, restaurants, food personalities and more over Labor Day weekend, September 2-5, 2011.

4 L.A. Chefs Are Contenders for "The People's Best New Chef"
Four Los Angeles chefs are among those in the running to be named "Food & Wine's The People's Best New Chef 2011." Determined by the public's vote from regional lists of nominees, the honors have been bestowed on rising kitchen talent by the popular magazine since 1998.
Food & Wine Names KogiBBQ's Choi a 'Best New Chef'
Honorees named as Food & Wine mag's "Best New Chefs" of 2010 will be formally announced and celebrated tonight at a party in NYC, but news of who made the list broke a little earlier via F&W's iPhone app, according to GrubStreet.
LA's 'Best New Chefs' are a Couple of Animals
This past week, Food & Wine magazine announced their selections for the Best New Chefs in America for 2009. Said Editor in Chief Dana Cowin: "We sought out great chefs in every corner of America, from Memphis, Tennessee to Portland, Oregon, and found some extraordinary cooking. Some of our winners are in seriously elegant restaurants. Others are in small, quirky, casual spots. But they’re all immensely talented, creative and driven.”
Sweets for Your Sweet: Local Chocolate a Food & Wine Fave
Next month's issue of Food & Wine magazine takes a look at chocolate, and just in time for Valentine's Day. Their pick of the ten best bites of chocolate in the country represents a wide variety of tastes and kinds, from the more low-rent, like Nestlé's 100 Grand Bar at #9, to the more refined and artisanal. Coming in at #4 is Los Angeles-based chocolatier Compartes with their Plantain Truffles. We think Food & Wine did well in picking Compartes, having nibbled on them back in the summer of 2007 at the Dessert Decadence event. If you plan on picking up some sweets for your sweet to celebrate V-Day next month, you might want to skip See's (or the supermarket) and head to a local chocolatier like Compartes or some of those LAist sampled not too long ago at the Luxury Chocolate Salon, and support local small businesses while indulging a sweet tooth.
