In-N-Out would like to catch you before you turn that ten dollar bill into a roll of quarters and roll yourself over to one of their SoCal locations on their upcoming anniversary. Rumors that the popular fast food chain are offering up their classic burgers for 25 cents as part of a 60th anniversary special are false. The word from In-N-Out: "The rumor is not true." Although a burger for a quarter sounds like a......

Photo by orangesarenottheonlyfruit via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr Food bloggers What You See is What You Eat are back in the LAist Featured Photos pool with this refreshing and unusual cocktail from The Hungry Cat in Hollywood. They said: "Where else are you going to see the bartender take a slice of avocado, muddle it up with some hard spirits, and then give it to you like it is normal to......

Our generation was never quite as obsessed with kitchen gadgetry as our parents were. Most people never seem to venture beyond a blender and a George Foreman Grill. After all, Margaritas and paninis can get you through your 20s just fine. But maybe you are starting to get a little curious about those wedding presents, leftover gifts from Aunt Doris, and all of that shiny, shiny, chrome in the back aisle of Crate and......

When the first wave of the frozen yogurt phenom hit in the mid-80s, this LAister was a Torontonian; that was when and where the newest froyo franchise to hit the City of Angels today was born. YogenFruz started in Toronto in 1986, and has just opened their second LA location in Tarzana. To celebrate, all weekend long the new store will have a "Buy One-Get One Free" promotion going on, so grab a friend and......

Not too long ago I had a chance to meet Jonathan Gold, the Pulitzer award winning food writer for the LA Weekly. I know what you're thinking, did I ask him for a recommendation? Of course I did! This is one of two places he recommended to me personally, and I'm so excited to finally come visit this place. Mon Land is a Mongolian hotpot place with some Northern Chinese cuisine tossed in for good......

Photo of colorful farmers market carrots by hinducow via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr The Glendale Farmer's Market was the scene of an unlikely invasion yesterday, as senior citizens bused in from all over the San Fernando Valley showed up to trade in the vouchers issued to them by the state for fresh produce. According to the Glendale News-Press, approximately 500 seniors caused "near gridlock" on the sidewalk of Brand Boulevard and......

For awhile now, one lane of Selma Avenue near Hollywood Blvd. and Vine St. has been closed. Starting today, the whole block between Vine and Argyle has been shut down for a gas line relocation in preparation of Whole Foods, which is expected to open in early 2009. But for now, Selma Ave. (including sidewalks) will be closed for at least 60 days, but possibly longer. One block away at Selma and Morningside Court, Sustainable......

LAist will tackle some issues regarding dining, etiquette, tipping, etc. The information is compiled from etiquette classes, books, newspaper articles, and experience. Any and all questions can go in the comments section. Part 1 can be found here. Have you ever gone to a restaurant or reception where they give you a fork, a spoon, a knife, and a glass, except there are three or four of each? Why and how did we even......

This hot weather is way more summer than fall--par for the course here in LA, true--and that means we can keep acting like it's summertime. And eating like it's summertime. Back in the actual summertime, LAist wondered why the Weekly's esteemed Jonathan Gold had a dog face, as he ruminated about hot doggeries about town, and it wasn't long after that we, too, were inspired to get our hot dog on.......

Today's annual Lobster Festival in Redondo Beach looks to be a big draw, what with our gorgeous weather and the delicious appeal of the much-loved crustacean. If you're headed down that way you can eliminate the parking woes by taking advantage of the free shuttle that runs to Seaside Lagoon from the Redondo Union High School parking lot (between Garnsey and Del Amo streets) anytime during the festival, which runs noon to 11 tonight and......

Terried Sake House falls into the hole-in-the-wall category. It's a great little Japanese Izakaya on Santa Monica close to Federal. An Izakaya, of course, is a restaurant that serves beer and sake and also the food that goes with it. The place is small and a bit dingy, but the food more than makes up for it. It's also fairly inexpensive for an Izakaya, so we got to order a ton of stuff. Alright, less......

Loteria Grill at the Original Farmers Market has long been one of the city's most popular Mexican outposts (we reviewed it back in April just for kicks), so it's nice to see chef Jimmy Shaw take up residence in an attractive space on Hollywood Boulevard. The new restaurant's menu is more extensive than the original's, but there are still plenty of your old favorites to choose from. LAist's editor Zach Behrens has given the......

We brought our family, checked out the farm animals and attractions and oh my freaking god, did we eat a lot of deep fried food and cheese fries. The month-long LA County Fair ends on Sunday with Saturday hosting the LG World Championships of Freestyle Motocross and a Filter concert (but they do cost extra). Here are a few more photos from the fair starting with this crazy 28-pound rabbit.......

There's an awesome free event (yes, FREE! for those who RSVP) going down at The Grove at Farmers Market this Thursday, Sept 25th at 7pm. Top Chef contestants Chris "CJ" Jacobsen and Antonia Lofaso (who is also executive chef at WeHo hot spot Foxtail) are scheduled to appear, thanks to Los Angeles Magazine and the Sherry Council of America. CJ and Antonia will be facing off against each other in a "friendly" cooking competition,......

LAist will tackle some issues regarding dining, etiquette, tipping, etc. The information is compiled from etiquette classes, books, newspaper articles, and experience. Any and all questions can go in the comments section. If you ask someone to dinner, it is expected that you should make the reservations, choose the place, and pay for the meal. Any "dutch" paying arrangements are made before you get to the restaurant. Often times this rule is neglected when hanging......

LAist Featured Photos' oranges are not the only fruit took a tip from Jonathan Gold and headed over to KyoChon for some post-Wiltern chicken. Did you skip breakfast this morning? (Shame on you if you did!) Or maybe that Starbucks scone/protein bar/power smoothie/leftover cold pizza left something to be desired. Perhaps this enticing croissant sandwich found by LAist Featured Photos pool contributor pink_fish13 can remind you of how good breakfast can be. Here's a big win for fans of classic sandwiches: a tip just came down the wire that Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet, one of the two restaurants in L.A. that claims responsibility for inventing the famed French Dip sandwich (the other being Phillipe's), will be reopening sometime in late October or early November. Downtown nightlife impresario Cedd Moses, of 213 Downtown, acquired Cole's in 2007 and has been renovating the space back to the glory......

High-profile, pricey dining events are fun and all, but most of us would rather spend our dining dollars on an event that supports a great cause. If you're one of those people, you're in luck this weekend, because Savor The Season is one of those worth-it events. Not only does it feature a catered spread from some of L.A.'s best restaurants, but proceeds from the event are going to Break The Cycle, an organization......

Photo by Farley Elliott/LAist While not generally synonymous, Los Angeles and barbeque food have a lot in common. Both seem to attract the eccentrics, the slightly misguided. Both have a worldwide appreciation, but not many people talk about the greasy, slimy mess that gets left behind when all else is gone. And both are responsible for a lot of bad gas issues, and a sizable hole in the ozone layer. One of the best......

Afternoon tea is a delightful tradition that has morphed into its own stateside genesis of elegance and indulgence, complete with lots of food and, of course, tea. LAist Featured Photos contributor kristi.nicole recently enjoyed an afternoon of tea and treats at Venice's Jin Patisserie and gave us this......

Andrew Steiner, former "Maitre Fromager" at Patina (Cheese Master -- now there's a worthy sobriquet!), has opened a shop of his own on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. Andrew's Cheese Shop is offering over 200 varieties of cheese, including many hand-crafted and artisanal varieties from all over the globe -- even raw milk cheeses! Andrew highlights cheeses like the Chimay Grand Cru (yes, from the same makers of the potent Belgian ale), Sally Jackson......

Just a couple of weeks ago LAist's Eye Nosh was all about lunch at the Gumbo Pot, a meal determined to have been a success ("Everything was Real Good!"). Perhaps that's what inspired LAist Featured Photos pool contributor Sparkylulu to head over to the Farmer's Market to check out the Ya Ya Gumbo and more at the Gumbo Pot. LA Greek Festival, Sept. 6-7. Photo by pink_fish13 via Flickr Looking for something to do this weekend that is the exact opposite of the LA Triathlon? Then head over to Saint Sophia’s Cathedral at Pico / Normandie for this weekend’s LA Greek Festival, a face-stuffing celebration of the heritage (and culinary prowess) of all things Hellenic. It's that time of year again--time to pack everyone in the car, gas it up, and trek out to the Fairplex in Pomona to get your LA County Fair on. You may have been seeing those ads that play on current events for this year's 18-days of fun and counting the days, or maybe you've never been. Either way, it's a fun outing, and, if you go today, admission is only $1 until 5 p.m.......
