Matt Kenseth continued his perfect start to the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season by winning the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California tonight. Fresh off a coast-to-coast victory tour for the Daytona 500, Kenseth is the first driver since Jeff Gordon in 1997 to start a NASCAR Cup Series season with back-to-back victories. Kenseth battled for the lead with Jeff Gordon in the final laps of the race, passing Gordon's #24 car with a speedier pit stop on lap 216.

Cops in Fontana hit the payload last night, after working with drug enforcement and ICE agents, when they found a fortune in marijuana stashed inside some figurines. The authorities had the home in the 8900 block of Reseda Avenue under surveillance for several days, which "paid off when someone dropped off a load of ceramic donkeys, and about 1,500 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $1.5 million, was found inside the statues," according to abc7.com. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests were reported.
A 14-year-old driver and two passengers--aged 11 and 6--died last night after a car chase that ended in a Fontana front yard. Around 9 p.m., a CHP officer pulled over the Nissan Maxima. When he approached the car on foot, it fled. The chase hit speeds up to 90 mph and ran several red lights before careening out of control, rolling over a few times ejecting two of the boys from the car and killing them instantly. The 6-year-old who was wearing his seatbelt later died at the hospital.
As Santa Ana Winds began to warm and increase in speed today, the National Weather Service extended their Red Flag Warning for an additional day to 11:00 p.m. Saturday night, prompting the the LA Fire Department to extend their own red flag parking restrictions through 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning (but that can change in a moment's notice). A couple fires with potential to spread into larger incidents were knocked down north of Chatsworth and in Moreno Valley. The Foxborough Fire in the Fontana/Rancho Cucamonga area is 60 percent contained and was started by fireworks.
A wildfire that began at 12:45 a.m. northwest of Interstate 15 and north of the Foothill Freeway in the hills of Fontana has grown to 250-acres, prompting the voluntary evactuation of about 100 homes and the closure of two schools.
