LAX officials yesterday finalized plans for the fourth FlyAway route that will take passengers to and from Irvine. Beginning November 16th, the one-way 50-mile trip will cost $25 for adults (they won't accept cash, credit or debit only). Each fare allows for two students 8th grade and under to ride for free. Children under five also ride free.
Orange County FlyAway Service to Begin in November
LAX FlyAway Service to Expand to Orange County
One of L.A.'s best traffic-beating ideas will soon hit Orange County. A non-stop FlyAway bus between the Irvine Station and Los Angeles International Airport was approved today by the city's Airport Commission. The three-year license agreement between Irvine and LAX means the fourth FlyAway route could start soon.
LAX FlyAway Fares to Increase Again, New Location Considered
One of LA's best ideas is about to get a little more pricier. Beginning August 1st, LAX FlyAway one-way tickets between Union Station/Van Nuys and LAX will raise one dollar to $7 to further close the gap between revenues and expenses. Westwood to LAX and back will remain at $5 each way.
Beware Travelers: Parking Tickets Gifted to Cars in the FlyAway Parking Lot
One LAist reader has a travel warning for you that could put a frown on your face once you return from the Thanksgiving holiday (or any trip from that matter). Here's what they had to say:
FlyAway Fares Ascend
As noted earlier, the LA Board of Airport Commissioners today were scheduled to vote on increasing FlyAway fares a couple of dollars. Citing rising fuel costs, Van Nuys and Union Station routes increased from $4 to $6 and Westwood from $4 to $5 beginning Jan. 1, 2009. The board also voted a new discount fare of $4 for persons age 65 or over, disabled, or on Medicare (proof must be shown).
LAX FlyAway Fare to Possibly Increase
The always convenient FlyAway buses that whisk passengers from Van Nuys, Union Station and Westwood Village to LAX and back is not making its revenue back and some city officials would like to see that happen. Although ridership increased 30% in 2007 with some 1.3 million passengers, the system lost $9.5 million in the last fiscal year. Therefore, the Board of Airport Commissioner may vote to increase the fare a dollar or two from the current $4 to $6 price (fare dependent on where you're coming from). Earlier this summer, the morning service schedule from Union Station was bulked up due the popularity of the buses.
LAX FlyAway Bus Bulks Up AM Service From Union Station
Getting to LAX is not usually a pleasant experience, between the traffic, the crowds, and the anticipated ordeal that is checking in and being screened. Add to that the fact that getting to the city's major airport by public transit is more challenging than perhaps it should be, and it's no wonder that despite fewer flights taking off, more people are turning to affordable ways to get themselves to LAX.
Five Big Thank-Yous
When asked what I was thankful for this year, I really had to step back and think for a while. I know life is full of blessings, but writing about what makes me want to keep breathing everyday isn't as easy as it sounds. So without further ado here are some things, good and bad, big and small, that made me feel thankful this year in no particular order... 1. Guitar Hero III I’m...
