LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Tame Tigers

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Tame Tigers

LA Dodgers defeat Detroit Tigers 6-1. In what is an infrequent showing, the Dodgers looked like a good baseball team for one night. Fuelled by Andre Ethier’s two-run homer in the fifth inning, the Dodgers bled the Tigers slowly. more ›

Improbable Walk-Off Gives Dodgers Victory over Marlins

Improbable Walk-Off Gives Dodgers Victory over Marlins

It took a moment to process what was happening on the field in the bottom of the ninth inning. For a team that doesn’t have a bunch of power, the Dodgers had been relying on the home run ball as their source of runs recently. But at this moment they opted to rally culminating in Dioner Navarro’s walk-off RBI single to defeat the Florida Marlins 3-2. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Swat Hornets To Take Series Lead

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Swat Hornets To Take Series Lead

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 106-90. After a first quarter where the Hornets got anything they wanted and led by nine, it seemed unlikely the Lakers would get the win much less give the fans their tacos. But it was the bench that sparked the comeback early in the second quarter coupled with Hornets errors that gave them the win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels Having a Bad Time in Chicago

LAst Night's Action: Angels Having a Bad Time in Chicago

Chicago White Sox defeat LA Angels 5-2. Another day, another rain delay for the Angels. After two hours, 20 minutes the first pitch was thrown for the Angels’ inevitable loss. Coming into this game White Sox starter Freddy Garcia was 14-3 against the Angels. With his six innings of one-run ball, make that 15-3 now. Angels’ starter Joe Saunders gave up all five runs on ten hits in his 5 2/3 innings of work to get tagged with the loss. Bobby Jenks got his 19th save of the season for the Sox in his perfect ninth. more ›

Johnson Overpowers Dodgers

After giving up four runs in five innings to the New York Mets on opening day, Florida Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson (9-3) had not given up more than three runs in his other 16 starts and lasted at least six innings in his last 15 starts. The All Star pitcher displayed his full arsenal of blazing hot fastballs, sliders and change-ups against the Dodgers confounding them to a 4-0 loss. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels Wait for Loss

LAst Night's Action: Angels Wait for Loss

Chicago White Sox defeat LA Angels 4-1. They waited for the rain to pass, but the Angels still couldn’t muster a win against the White Sox. Jered Weaver (8-4) gave up all four runs in his 6 1/3 innings of work including two homers by Alex Rios and Andruw Jones. Meanwhile White Sox starter Jake Peavy had to leave the game while pitching to Mike Napoli with two outs in the second inning. He strained his side and will likely have to go on the disabled list. Tony Peña (2-1) though took up the slack in getting the win going 4 1/3 innings of relief giving up only one run on five hits. Bobby Jenks recorded his 18th save. more ›

Dodgers Rebound Against Marlins

After they couldn’t quite complete the comeback in last night’s 6-5 loss to the Florida Marlins, the Dodgers uncoiled against them and their starter Chris Volstad (4-8) in their 6-2 win. “Everybody’s making their contribution,” Dodgers’ manager Joe Torre commented about the win. “[Blake] DeWitt, a couple of stolen bases tonight. We just did a lot of good things tonight.” more ›

LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers Strike Out

LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers Strike Out

Chicago White Sox defeat LA Angels 9-2. The White Sox wasted no time jumping on Angels’ starter Scott Kazmir. After Juan Pierre grounded out to lead off the first, Alexei Ramirez homered to left field for the 1-0 lead. Kazmir walked Andruw Jones to lead off the second inning. That bit Kazmir in the ass when Jones stole second base with Brent Lillibridge batting and scored on Lillibridge’s single... more ›

Dodgers Can't Catch the Marlins

In his last two starts, Dodgers’ starter John Ely rebounded from what was an awful June up to that point going seven innings each and giving up one earned run in each game. The Florida Marlins paid no mind to it and rocked Ely (4-6) to the tune of six runs in 2 2/3 innings and the loss - a deficit too much to overcome for the Dodgers in their 6-5 loss. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Casually Lose to Portland

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Casually Lose to Portland

Portland Trail Blazers defeat LA Lakers 91-88. Here are the words no Lakers fans want to hear in the closing seconds of a game that is still undecided. “Pau Gasol for three…” Yet it happened. In a tie game in the closing seconds you don’t want Derek Fisher to foul Martell Webster behind the three point line as he goes to shoot. But he did. In the closing seconds you don’t want Kobe Bryant and fisher to brick three consecutive free throws... more ›

Dodger Rally Comes Up Short

Dodger Rally Comes Up Short

Down 8-0 to the Florida Marlins after five innings, the Dodgers rallied to keep fans on the edge of their seat but ultimately fell short losing 8-6. "These guys play hard," Torre said. "Aside from the one inning that [Jeff] Weaver pitched, the bullpen did a good job to keep us close and put us in the position where we had the tying run at the plate a couple of times." more ›

Dodgers-Marlins Preview: Hall of Fame Edition

Dodgers-Marlins Preview: Hall of Fame Edition

As I sit here and write these words on this glorious day, in Cooperstown, NY, Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice are being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Henderson's career spanned from 1979 to 2003 playing mostly left field for the Oakland A's, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers (in 2004), Anaheim Angels (in 1997), Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. In 1982 he broke Lou Brock's stolen base record by stealing 130 bases. By the All Star break that season he had already stolen 84 bases. more ›

Blake's Single Seals Dodgers Victory Walk-Off Style

Blake's Single Seals Dodgers Victory Walk-Off Style

For the 10th time this season the Dodgers have won a game in walk-off fashion leading the Majors. Tonight Casey Blake in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Florida Marlins broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI bloop single with the bases loaded to give the Dodgers the 4-3 win. "The real credit goes to the at-bats leading up to that," Blake said after the game. "I'm just trying to put the bat on the ball there, and I found a hole." more ›

Dodgers-Marlins LiveBlog: It's about the Pitching Stupid

Dodgers-Marlins LiveBlog: It's about the Pitching Stupid

Tonight the Dodgers send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound. As discussed previously, Kuroda has been scuffling this season since coming of the disabled list on June 1. With a 2-5 record he has not gotten a win in his last three starts, the last coming on July 8 when he went 5 1/3 innings in San Diego giving up three runs. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Runs Comes in Spurts

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Runs Comes in Spurts

LA Dodgers defeat Florida Marlins 9-1. Marlins starter Andrew Miller looked absolutely horrible. He went 1 2/3 innings and gave up seven earned runs on five hits and five walks which could have been worse if reliever Mark Hendrickson (remember him?) didn't get the final out in the second inning with the bases loaded. Meanwhile Chad Billingsley went seven innings notching a season-high 13 strike outs while giving up only one run on five hits. With closer Takashi Saito out indefinitely after coming out of the game Saturday night with a tingly feeling in his arm, it was a relief for the Dodgers not to have to address that in this game. The Dodgers go into the All Star break one game back in the NL West and three games under .500. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Nothing Decided Between Chivas, Galaxy

LAst Night's Action: Nothing Decided Between Chivas, Galaxy

Chivas USA ties LA Galaxy 1-1. The Galaxy came out strong at the beginning of the first half, but soon gave way to Chivas' aggressiveness. Ante Razov would score for Chivas in the 15th minute with the assist from Sacha Klejstan. The Galaxy didn't look sharp at all especially Landon Donovan. However Edson Buddle saved the Galaxy in the 72nd minute with a game tying goal with the assist to Peter Vagenas and David Beckham. Both teams remain in first place atop the Western Conference . more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Go on a Fish Fry

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Go on a Fish Fry

LA Dodgers (14-13) defeat Florida Marlins (15-12) 13-1. The Dodgers are an offensive juggernaut on a five-game winning streak. Seriously. Manager Joe Torre made the unprecedented move to use the same lineup two nights in a row, and the Dodgers rewarded him. Rafael Furcal had a career-high five hit game, Russell Martin hit a solo homer in the second inning to lead the scoring and James Loney and Blake DeWitt hit bases-clearing triples in the seventh and eighth innings to blow out the young Marlins. And by the way, Chad Billingsley (1-4) got his first win going seven innings scattering three hits with one earned run and eight strikeouts. The Dodgers had only one five-game winning streak last season. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Unbeaten Saunders Lifts Halos

LAst Night's Action: Unbeaten Saunders Lifts Halos

LA Angels (17-11) over Oakland A's (17-11) 2-0. While a lot has been said about Brandon Webb, Jake Peavy and Chien-Ming Wang, Joe Saunders (5-0) has been lights out with little fanfare. Saunders pitched an eight-inning shutout giving up four hits and five strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez notched a league-high 11th save despite walking the lead-off man Mark Ellis and the Big Hurt. Meanwhile for the A's Greg Smith (2-1) pitched a strong complete game despite the loss. more ›

Beckhams Be Gone!

Beckhams Be Gone!

What a waste of a quarter billion dollars. For the same amount that the Galaxy promised David Beckham to come to Los Angeles, they could have paid the salaries of all 26 New York Yankees in 2007 -- plus the Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In the NFL, they could have covered an entire team operating at the salary cap for almost two and a half seasons. Granted, it's a five year... more ›

Can I Take Potpourri for $400 Alex?

The fan votes will determine which position players start the game. According to the results, My Boyfriend is running a distant fourth to the fiery whoring gambler Paul Lo Duca (former... more ›
