Transcendent "Transatlanticism" & Fireworks, July 5, 2009

We may have spent the evening watching fireworks go off all along the horizon, in the streets, on the hills, and from major venues in Los Angeles, and we may have fallen asleep to the not-so-dulcet sounds of neighbors snap-crackle-popping their own stash of illegal fireworks into the wee hours, but we also woke up to a few great photos posted online from last night's many fireworks displays.

Checkpoint Scheduled in Pasadena for Fireworks, Not Drunks
How's this for punishment? Police checkpoints will be set up on Saturday around hillside areas not to make sure you're driving sober, but to see if you have fireworks. If you get busted, they could confiscate your car, throw you in jail or fine you $50,000, according to the Pasadena Star News. Remember, for the most part, fireworks are illegal and only some cities allow "safe and sane" ones. And of course, they'll be on the hunt for illegally parked cars.

Wanna Watch Fireworks Tonight?
All fireworks in LA are illegal. Any time you drive over the speed limit, that's illegal too. Any time you drink a few more beers than you should and get behind the wheel, that's illegal. And any time you lie under oath and obstruct justice when a Special Prosecutor is trying to figure out if the Vice President of the United States authorized a leak of classified information so this administration could continue to...
Happy 4th of July
One year a neighbor invited us to the exclusive 4th of July soiree at the Wilshire Country Club. Not knowing what to expect, we drove over to the club and inside the very big gates. We thanked our friends for including us and drove home to put our little one to...
