Tonight there’s a full moon hike at Towsley Canyon in Santa Clarita beginning at 7 pm. Follow volunteer naturalist Wendy for two hours of moderately strenuous hiking under the moonlight. The hiking and program are free.

No Budget Film Festival Screening Tonight in Westwood
The Ahimsa Collective presents the No Budget Film Festival tonight at The Improv Space in Westwood tonight from 7:30-10 pm. The collective has asked filmmakers to produce short films for no money--meaning no sets, no lights, no props, no costumes, no tripods. Just cameras and ideas. In between the films, the filmmakers will talk about their experiences of shooting on the fly. The judges and audience favorite will win a pitch meeting with Attention Span Media (Dorm Life). Tickets are only $5.

LACMA continues its Conversations with Artists series tonight at 7 pm. LACMA curator Leslie Jones will interview artist Robin Rhode, whose exhibit Contemporary Projects 12: Robin Rhode is on view at the museum through June 6. “Rhode will talk about his experience growing up in South Africa, recent work, and the site-specific performance created at LACMA for the exhibition.” The event will be held at the Brown Auditorium. The discussion is free, and tickets will be available one hour before to the program.

There’s a diverse community of animators in Chicago, and the Echo Park Film Center brings their work to Los Angeles in “Chi(a)nimation All Stars: Recent Animations from Chicago.” Artist Jodie Mack will share a collection of animated shorts made in Chicago during her time in the Windy City (2005-present). “From hand-drawn character animations, to lush abstractions, to puppet or paint-on glass animation, to glitch video processing--this program illustrates a multitude of midwestern motion experiments!” The show begins at $8 and tickets are $5.
Pencil This In: Rock Star Photography, Dancing @ the Music Center
“Occupation Dreamer: The Photography of Moshe Brakha” is on display at the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE now through Aug. 9. The exhibit--the first one ever for the museum--includes 30 photographs of now-famous musicians taken by Brakha between 1976 and 1986 in New York, London, Beverly Hills, Dallas and Hollywood. Among the subjects: Madonna, The Beastie Boys, Black Flag, Miles Davis, Sting, Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell, Madness, The Ramones, Run DMC, Sammy Hagar, Neil Young and The Thompson Twins.
