The U.S. National Team faced a tough test on Saturday in its FIFA World Cup 2010 debut, facing England, one of the tournament's favorites. It was a rematch sixty years in the making. The last time the two teams faced each other was the 1950 edition of the World Cup in Brazil, when the U.S. upset England by a score of 1 - 0. A feat so shocking, English fans believed the scoreline to be a misprint. England has since hosted and won the World Cup in 1966, but the U.S. game has had its ups and downs. more ›

Video: 'The Game is in US' Part of Grassroots Movement for Bid to Host World Cup

As part of what's being tagged a grassroots movement to create momentum for the US bid for the World Cup in 2018 or 2022, the USA Bid Committee released a video today in celebration of the role soccer plays in American culture. Called "The Game is in Us"--a play on "U.S."--the video piggy-backs the excitement felt by many about the official submission of the United States Bid Book to FIFA during a formal ceremony tomorrow in Switzerland. more ›

Los Angeles may have lost its bid to Chicago for the 2016 Olympics (not that they won, anyway), but two City Councilmembers would like to see the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup come here, should the U.S. be selected as the host country. 27 U.S. cities are considered potential host venues--the Rose Bowl in Pasadena was a venue in 1994--but that doesn't mean Los Angeles is a shoe-in. more ›
