Poll: It's a Real Race for Sen. Boxer and Carly Fiorina

Jerry on Poll Numbers

Jerry on Poll Numbers

In response to the recent gubernatorial Field Poll results, which has former eBay CEO and Republican candidate Meg Whitman pulling ahead of Attorney General and Democrat Jerry Brown by 3 points, Brown's spokesman went but wait, touché: “Meg Whitman has spent a year and $40 million running for governor and what that’s accomplished is that she’s in a virtual dead heat with Jerry Brown, who launched his campaign two weeks ago.” Of course, Brown has been teasing his run for Governor for months and is already well-known, thanks to his former days as Governor and Oakland's Mayor. He began his political career as Secretary of State in 1970, which gives him 40 years in the spotlight vs. Whitman's $40 million. more ›

Field Poll Says Approval Rating of Legislature at a Sad 13%

That's the lowest approval rating of the Legislature from registered voters in the Field Poll's 26-year history. And that's not the only record broken. He may eat adorable breakfasts, but that's not going to save Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's 27 percent rating, the lowest since he entered office (and a number only found back in 1961 with Pat Brown). But still, he isn't the governor with the worst approval rating, that goes to Gray Davis (22%) before he was ousted from office in a recall election that Schwarzenegger won. more ›

Who Wants to be California's Next Governor?

Who Wants to be California's Next Governor?

The latest Field Poll on nine potential Gubernatorial candidates for the 2010 race includes LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The poll asked registered voters in California about their impressions of the possible state leaders. "U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is the best known and most favorably viewed among registered Democrats," the SacBee says, also finding that "on the Republican side, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman draws no opinion from more than two-thirds of GOP voters." For Villaraigosa, it's a tie: about a third of people find him favorable, another third find him unfavorable and the remaining have no opinion (interesting: high unfavorable rankings from those who are married). He says he's not running for Governor. more ›

Polling Shows Gap Closing on Anti-Abortion Measure, Prop 4

Polling Shows Gap Closing on Anti-Abortion Measure, Prop 4

As election day closes in, a Field Poll shows 45% of voters in favor and 43% opposed to Prop 4 (parental notification for minor's abortions). An earlier Field Poll, from September of this year, showed the initiative ahead by 49% to 41%. If history is any indicator of the outcome, it's heartening to know that nearly identical initiatives from the past two election cycles (Prop 85 and Prop 73) were also leading in the polls before election day and wound up being voted down. more ›
