Those Free Cream Puffs @Famima!! Have Been Rescheduled

-FamimaSo go out and get your cream puffs...on Friday!

Free Cream Puffs: If You 'Don't Have a Beard' Here's How to Get One

Two Downtown locations of Famima!! want to pass on a secret involving a sweet treat. The convenience chain will be carrying Beard Papa's cream puffs at their stores on 6th Street (Pacific Center) and at 350 S. Grand Avenue (California Plaza) until the end of the month weekdays between Noon and 5 p.m., and they want to give you a taste for free. Between 10 a.m. and noon today through Thursday if you tell the Famima!! counter clerk "I don't have a beard" they'll give you one--one Beard Papa's cream puff, that is. There's a limit of one per customer for the freebie, mind you.

Famima!! Opens 6th Store in Downtown Today

Ultra convenience store Famima!! has big plans this year. In total, they have a goal of opening 20 storefronts throughout the Los Angeles region by the end of this year. Locally, those locations include West LA, Pasadena and two downtown. One of those downtown locations opened earlier this month at 700 Wilshire. One whole block away inside the Downtown Roosevelt on the 700 block of 7th Street, the company opens yet another store today. In honor of fashion week, models today will act as stand still sculptures as decor and displaying Famima!! products. Other downtown locations can be found at California Plaza, City National Plaza, the Pacific Center and in Southpark.

Famima! Explosion: 5th Downtown Location to Open Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Famima is opening a new store at 700 Wilshire. Next week, another is expected to open at the Roosevelt Building and by the end of May, one more at Union Station. When all is said and done, downtown will have seven Famimas. And beyond that, the company hopes to open 20 in the region by the end of 2009 including ones in West LA and another in Pasadena (however, none are planned for the Valley, sad). The new resurgence of hyper-local convenience stores is a good sign for downtown's growth (not to mention the "upscale" 7-11 that is on it's way), but it comes with unfortunate news: the family owned Bloom's convenience store in the Arts District closed its doors last week after 15 years. Also: Hollywood recently gained an eco-conscious convenience store, called Locali. You can buy vegan condoms there.

Downtown Has Famima!!-mania

Japanese import convenience store Famima!! seems to have Downtown locked down. They currently have 5 locations in the area, and are prepping to open a sixth come February, but in an urban-center-Starbucks-esque move, they are opening it on the same block as another one. According to angelenic, "Downtown's newest Famima!! will be on the corner of 7th and Flower in the Roosevelt Lofts." Talk about convenient: "You won't even have to cross a street to swing by from the new Wilshire/Hope branch." Sadly, in other parts of LA County, Famima!! isn't doing as well. The Glendale location was shuttered in March following lackluster sales, as did two in Long Beach, and the one in Torrance in May.

Tomorrow is the ribbon cutting of the third and newest downtown Famima!! at the California Plaza on Grand Avenue near MOCA. It's about time this part of downtown receive some new food options, even if this is quasi Japanese 7-11 style. However, a made-to-order sushi bar will be the centerpiece of this location.
