The LA Times music blog, Soundboard, confirms it. Largo owner Mark Flanagan is planning on closing and moving Largo by mid-May to the Coronet Theatre on La Cienega, north of Beverly Blvd. The Coronet seats 280 in the main room, compared with 120 at the Fairfax venue; it also has a smaller space with a capacity of about 90 where Flanagan plans to book developing bands and comedians. The big room also has one significant......

First Nova Express Cafe? Now Largo? The good news, however, is that Largo's alleged closing is about opening a new space on La Cienaga according to bulletin board threads on www.fairfax-avenue.com and the Ditty Bops' website. A February 21st post on Fairfax Avenue repeated what Sara Watkins (of the Watkins Family Hour) wrote on a MySpace bulletin: "Largo will be closed and moving to a great new location during May (to open in June) so......

Photos by Zach Behrens/LAist It's a sad day week for those who frequent Fairfax Village, for those who need a late-night nosh alternative to Canter's Deli, or for those who love some vegan pizza -- Nova Express Cafe announced (letter below) that they are closing their doors this Wednesday at 2 a.m. (not be too confusing, that would officially be Thursday, 3 hours in). According to Cary Long, the owner of the Sci-Fi 15-year-old......

Attention space cadets, men in black and intergalactic babes, your resistance to snack attacks of insomnia are not to be heeded. Point your ship towards Fairfax Village and prepare to wine and dine in the alien kitsched, mellowed out, droid welcoming version of the Mos Eisley Cantina at Nova Express Cafe. Open six nights a week (no Mondays) starting at 7 p.m., Nova stays open until 2 a.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, 3.am. on Thursdays......

Stores on Fairfax Avenue. Photo by Terry Stamatis. The first time I saw it over a year ago, I thought it was fluke, a coincidence, a mis-hap. But no, it is true, on Saturday mornings in the Fairfax District, Orthodox Jewish families en route to synagogue share the sidewalks with Gay couples walking hand-in-hand on their way to brunch. There are no contemptuous faces or grunts. Instead, they pass each other on the street,......

So we don't have an official Little Italy? Psahw! Screw it! Stop visiting Canter's in Fairfax Village so much and head a little more South to Little Ethiopia once in awhile. Many have been, but most have passed through. At the very least, watch the video on TurnHere. Food enough of a reason? Hey, even vegan food! Or shopping? It's the holiday season after all. Skip the last minute Christmas Eve World Market/Cost Plus......

We stopped by Canter's Deli last night around 11:00 p.m. to see the lines ourselves, witness the hoopla and grab a quick rugula. Daily News reports that Canter's estimated selling "10,000 sandwiches packed with 8,500 pounds of corned beef brisket." Other Canter's Deli consumption stats: 4,900 pounds of pastrami per month1,500 gallons of chicken soup a week4,000 knishes a week Los Anjealous visited right at 12:00 p.m. and snapped a shot of their meal.......

As we mentioned last week, don't forget that it is Canter's 75th Anniversary today. And for a whole three quarters you can get a Hot Corned Beef sandwich on Rye with a pickle, potato salad and a chocolate rugula (limit one order per person). A line has been going out the door all day long, averaging a 10-15 minute wait. It's dinner time right now and we can't imagine how long the wait is......
