Tonight In Rock: Them Crooked Vultures, The Drums, Mississippi Man, Bomba Estéreo

Tonight LA-based rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, which is comprised of Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, John Paul Jones and Alain Johannes, will be performing last minute at the Roxy. Local folk-infused pop outfit Mississippi Man are poised to continue their residency at the Silver Lake Lounge with the Color Turning in tow. And, lastly, Bogotá-based experimental electro quintet Bomba Estéreo will be performing in-store at Amoeba Music in Hollyweird. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch local indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3). Tonight In Rock: Robert Francis, Gabriella Cilmi, Rocco Deluca, Olin & the Moon

Tonight 17-year-old Australian singer-songwriter sensation Gabriella Cilmi will be performing at the Hotel Café. English psych rocker Pop Levi will be rocking out at the Echoplex for 826LA's Tiny Vaudeville. And all three free Monday Night Residencies, which have simply dominated Silver Lake and Echo Park for the past month, will be coming to a conclusion. Local singer-songwriter Rocco Deluca (LAist Interview, Review) is slated to play his final show at Spaceland with LAist favorites Marvelous Toy. Echo Park's own alt-rockers Olin & the Moon (LAist Interview) will be concluding their stint at the Silver Lake Lounge with Evan Way (of the Parson Red Heads) and Taylor Goldsmith (of Dawes). But we insist that you head over to the Echo to catch Robert Francis (LAist Interview, Review), who will be closing up shop with Austin-based folk rockers Peter and the Wolf. more ›

Soundcheck: The Airborne Toxic Event, The Deadly Syndrome & The Henry Clay People @ Spaceland, 6/17/08

Last month, local band The Airborne Toxic Event (MySpace) returned to Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake to headline a show that included The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace), and The Henry Clay People (MySpace) with support from I Make This Sound (MySpace) and Le Switch (MySpace). As aptly described by Mouse from Classical Geek Theatre, "Before a mixed-crowd of longtime fans and recent, true-believing converts, The Airborne Toxic Event rewarded ticket holders with a near flawless-set that could have just as easily been played at The Hollywood Bowl, The Kodak Theatre, or Coachella. There was no melodrama, very little hype, and nobody on stage had to prove anything. It was just the band and their songs; naked, raw, hard-boiled." more ›
