Yes, that's right...there were so many of us who wanted to go to Erotica L.A. this year that to break it up a bit, I was given the dubious honor of covering it "from a woman's point of view." I'm not sure what that means, exactly - should I be feigning offense over the plethora of tits and ass cheeks hanging out of boy shorts? Because I think it would have been kind of lame of me to go with the sole intent of being offended. After all, the shit is called "Erotica L.A." - I must own up to knowing what I was getting myself into (and...well, being excited about it). Or perhaps my vagina itself should be writing this? I think my vagina felt good about the whole event...hang on, I'll ask it....

You've probably seen the billboards and other advertising promoting this weekend's Erotica LA at the LA Convention Center. While smaller in scale than AVN's Adult Entertainment Expo, the 13th annual incarnation is still the city's largest yearly adult consumer exposition, with predictions of over 40,000 people in attendance, many of whom will be women and couples.
So what's the Adult Entertainment Expo like? Scenester photographer Igor from Driven By Boredom explained that "This is just a huge room filled with booth after booth of sex related things. Mostly porn companies in the front, but towards the back there are booths for hookers, strippers, sex toys and a lot of ugly clothes that only the biggest manor of scum bag would wear. (Discounting the rad kids at the I <3 Vagina booth)... I met a bunch of people and saw a lot of friends." It should be noted that while Igor didn't mention the marketplace on the lower level, his description of the upper level is mainly accurate.
On Sunday evening, Protecting Adult Welfare held its annual Bare Bowling fundraiser in a San Fernando Valley bowling alley. Not surprisingly, these types of adult events are overwhelmingly attended by men of varying ages (as opposed to an Erotica LA that caters to a mainstream audience that includes a much greater percentage of women), many of whom wield an impressive (or in many cases frightening) amount of camera equipment. As for the pornstars in...

And I'm not talking about the good kind of of bust. It all started on that fair day in April when I noticed the seductive billboard just west of Coldwater Canyon on Ventura blvd. You know, right next to that sketchy Days Inn that's so awkwardly placed in between the trendy Il Tramezzino and 24/7 Twain's? Anyway, it advertised a vague yet intriguing event known as Erotica LA. Naturally I felt it to be a moral obligation to gain press entry to the event and share with my fellow LAists the wonderment of what I thought would be an epic porn convention a la Las Vegas' AVN Awards, of sorts. But to tell you the truth? Don't feel so left out.
News Busters sez "cheap slap at Catholics" to a feature in today's LA Times (reg. required), printing this quote from The Times' coverage of Erotica LA:
Payne, who earns $250 an hour, was about to demonstrate the fine art of spanking, which — contrary to what you might think — is not as simple as it looks. The hand should be cupped, not flat, she explained, and positioned on the lower part of the buttocks, never at the top, never on the leg and never ever near the tailbone.Continue reading "The LA Times is Anti-Catholic?"
Anaheim Mighty Ducks destroy the best two things going for themselves: their name and their logo.
It seems like an odd juxtaposition having Pinback on early before you bring the porn stars in late but that's how Avalon is doing it tonight. Pinback is known for their desire to have all ages shows for their mostly high school and college age fans so it'll probably be a little weird in the parking lots as the kids leave and the adult industry arrive for one of the launch parties for Erotica LA (NSFW). Industry employees get in for free. Everybody else gets in for $25...although we have to wonder if they are going to kick out the paying Pinback audience before re-opening the doors.
