There is one group of Los Angeles Lakers fans who are booing team player Kobe Bryant, but not for anything he's doing on the court. The Armenian community is angry about Bryant's just-announced endorsement deal with Turkish Airlines, according to CBS2, stirring up deep-rooted discord between the nations.

Daily News Endorses Jerry Brown for Governor
Although they endorsed Republican and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina for U.S. Senate, the San Fernando Valley's flagship paper The Daily News endorsed Democrat Jerry Brown for Governor on Sunday. To them, he's not Mr. Right, but rather Mr. Right Now.
LA Times Endorses Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer, Daily News for Carly Fiorina
L.A.'s bigger newspapers are starting to roll out endorsements for high profile races. The LA Times this weekend took to the Democrats and the Daily News sided with Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Carly Fiorina.
Do Food Trucks Have Political Power? 64 Trucks Endorse an Assembly Candidate
Some might say that proper dinner etiquette means refraining from discussions on religion, money and politics. On the streets of Los Angeles, however, food and politics go hand in hand. Just a few years ago, the Carne Asada is not a Crime movement swept headlines locally and nationally after L.A. County Supervisors bowed to brick and mortar restaurants, placing strict parking limits on taco trucks parking in unincorporated areas. Once the ordinance went into effect, it didn't take too long for a judge to throw it out, letting the 4,000 or so taco trucks in the county go back to business as usual.
Trio of Hollywood Industry Heavyweights Endorse Jerry Brown
You would think it was at least 2010 yet. No, it's still 2009. You would think that Attorney General Jerry Brown has at least announced he is running for governor. And no, he filed paperwork Tuesday to form an exploratory committee. Yet still, Jerry Brown yesterday received endorsement from some powerful Hollywood folk, according to Variety.
Paul Krekorian Gets Major Democratic Endorsement
The grassroots, but powerful San Fernando Valley Democratic Club yesterday endorsed Assemblyman Paul Krekorian for the 2nd District Council Seat in Los Angeles, according to wire reports. Krekorian is considered one of the front runners in the race along with Studio Exec Chris Essel and city prosecutor and LAUSD boardmember Tamar Galatzan--he currently represents portions of the Valley and over-the-hill neighborhoods like Los Feliz and Silver Lake. The endorsement gives the Democrat an edge on Essel, who has raised the most money and has been endorsed by former Mayor Richard Riordan. No matter, "money is not going to be a factor in this council race," says his campaign manager. "This campaign is going to be won on the ground, talking to voters directly." The primary for the district, which runs from Sherman Oaks to the Northeast Valley, will be held on September 22nd.
Gavin Newsom Reacts to Villaraigosa's Announcement
Shortly after LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced that he will not run for Governor, candidate Gavin Newsom released a statement. Looking for an endorsement? Probably. Doing what any good candidate should do? Yes. "I look forward to continuing to work with him, sharing our experiences as mayors, and collaborating on innovative solutions that will take California in a new direction... As Mayor Villaraigosa has said so eloquently recently, state government needs to change and I believe we can work together to make that a reality." The full statement is below:
Trutanich, Vahedi Endorsed by LA Times & Daily News
Signaling a cry for new blood in city politics, both major newspapers in town have endorsed David T. Vahedi for Council District 5 and Carmen "Nuch" Trutanich for City Attorney. Both face career track politicians, Paul Koretz and Jack Weiss, respectively, on next week's ballot.
Daily News Endorses Obama, Too
Following LA Times' historic endorsement of Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, the Valley-based Daily News today printed their endorsement of the Illinois Senator: "In this campaign, the Republicans have been on the side of despair, stirring up fear. They hope Americans will be terrified of taking a chance on a young, eloquent, intelligent, optimistic senator from Illinois who has the gall to think the country's best days are ahead - with him at the helm, of course. If you vote for the Democrat, they whisper, the terrorists will come and get us. (He's probably a terrorist himself.) If you vote for the Democrat, he will come and take your money to give to illegal immigrants. (He's really a socialist who wants the government to run everything.) If you vote for the Democrat, it will end America as we know it."
Churches to Practice Civil Disobedience on Sunday
"I'm going to talk about the un-biblical stands that Barack Obama takes. Nobody who follows the Bible can vote for him. We may not be politically correct, but we are going to be biblically correct. We are going to vote for those who follow the Bible." That's Rev. Wiley S. Drake of First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park in the LA Times speaking about the "pulpit initiative," which has churches in California and 21 other states illegally delivering political sermons or giving endorsements to presidential candidates.
LA Times Endorses Prop 11
Noting that it is not perfect, but would take some of the politics out of drawing legislative districts, the LA Times today endorsed Proposition 11, the November ballot initiative that would allow the redrawing of state district boundaries overseen by an independent commission after the 2010 census. As the Times put it, "Voters are supposed to choose their representatives, but in California, political parties select their voters. That kind of power is destructive and inherently anti-democratic. It must end, and Proposition 11 will help end it." This prop has likely friends as foes on this and anything with Karl Rove involved makes us squeamish just a bit. The San Francisco Chronicle also endorsed the proposition today.
Prop 8 Backers Say Gays 'Choose their Homosexuality'
When the LA Times' editorial board makes decisions on endorsements for propositions, they invite both sides into separate meetings. When they were with supporters of Prop 8 who seek to ban gay marriage, they had a couple of those awkward turtle moments:
LA Times Endorses No on Prop 8
Yesterday, the LA Times' editorial board endorsed the opposing side of Prop 8, which would ban gay marriage in California. "Civil rights are commonly hard-won, and not the result of widespread consensus... Fundamental rights are exactly that. They should neither wait for popular acceptance, nor be revoked because it is lacking."
Schwarzenegger 'Loves It,' Endorses McCain With Giuliani at His Side
Arnie and Johnny Mac had their little love-in this morning with Rudy G looking on. But Gov. Schwarzenegger's public endorsement of McCain was sandwiched by an abundance of pandering.
