Last night the TV Junkie had an incredible time talking to some of the best performers of stage and screen at the very friendly and low key reception for Primetime Emmy Nominated Performers at Wolfgang Puck at the Pacific Design Center. We talked to "Breaking Bad" lead (and last year's Emmy winner!) Bryan Cranston about how he prepares for his challenging role. Aaron Paul who plays the humorously tragic "Jesse" on the show shared that he brings some of his own trials to his role as well as research on how drug intervention programs work/don't work.
Emmy Weekend This week/weekend it's all about the Emmys and Sunday night at 8pm is where it's at. This puts the broadcast in conflict with a new episode of the Emmy-nominated "Mad Men" as well as the premieres of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Bored to Death" - thank goodness for repeat broadcasts and HBO-On-Demand. LAist's TV Junkie will be at the show, on the red carpet and in the press room so stay tuned to LAist for up-to-the minute posts on Sunday.
Hollywood lost a couple legends this last week: casting director Caro Jones who shaped who we saw on TV and film (from "Green Acres" to Rocky) for over four decades died on September 3rd at age 86; and yesterday Army Archerd died at 87, a longtime columnist for Variety where he wrote a column for 52 years (52 years!!), as well as being a pioneer in reporting on (most importantly) television and every aspect of producing entertainment in Hollywood. We will miss them both.
Anyone pretty much the world over can turn on their television on Sunday September 20th and watch the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. And even though Los Angeles is a company town, not everyone has a ticket to the show, which means once the show is over, only those on the guest list will get to head over to the Governor's Ball. The Emmy folks (that's the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, to be precise) have been busy planning this massive affair, and gave members of the media a sneak peak at the design and food and drink that will be enjoyed by the ball's attendees come Emmy night in L.A.

True, the strike has been over for awhile now and things have pretty much returned to normal. But I don't want you writers to think we are taking you for granted just because we're not honking anymore. We are honking with our hearts.
I first interviewed the guys almost a year ago for another online publication and we decided to sit down again, have a chat and see what had happened with and to them as Current's go to guys. The boys are blowing up. Last year they won and Emmy, this year they landed a spot in the pages of Interview Magazine and an advertorial spread in L'Uomo Vogue. That's right people, Current TV does high fashion.

From 8pm to It-Seems-Like-Eternity on Fox. But hey, whoa, this is the first carbon neutral Emmys, co-sponsored by Fox - but isn't acknowledging that they should attempt to become carbon neutral against the positions of every news and opinion personality in all Fox networks? I guess that's the kind of hypocrisy we like. HERE's the primetime awards website. Some nutty company called AirPlay lets you do live predictions of who might win, with trivia,...

I couldn't wait to rush home and watch my TiVo of the Creative Arts Emmy awards! I would never even have watched those awards if not for the fabulous Kathy Griffin. Above is the entire, unedited version. (Thanks, Youtube! Finally!!). This Youtube video starts after they bleeped her clearly saying, "Can you believe this shit(BLEEEP) ? The only sentence they edited out was, "Suck it Jesus!" I was surprised. As someone who was raised...
After not receiving a Creative Arts Emmy last year, Kathy Griffin stormed out, flipping off the winners from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, while shouting, ''I was robbed and you all know it! Everybody can suck it!'' You would think that would be a hard one to top. Especially this year, when she won. But Griffin is never one to disappoint. During her acceptance speech Saturday night, she shocked pious Catholics with the statement, "A lot...
Tonight I will be at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas attending Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds show. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love not only the newest album, but also JT’s general hotness. Above, I’ve included Mr. Timberlake’s video for his single “My Love”, to display how he can make me, and plenty of other women and gay men, melt into a puddle on the floor. Generally, listening to Justin...

Wildfire Erupts in Los Angeles Fires erupted in the hills above Los Angeles, damaging or destroying several homes, as dangerous north winds swept dry Southern California. Farther inland, a blinding sandstorm triggered a deadly highway pileup. Wind speeds of more than 50 mph were propelling a 15-acre blaze in grass near expensive homes above the city of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers said. Emmy-winning actor Roscoe Lee Browne dies at 81...
Some people have already been eulogized here on LAist, for example, Robert Altman, so I've done my best not to repeat anyone who has been mentioned recently. As someone who studied film in college, I always try to look over and remember people who changed the industry, improved their art, or who changed/improved me. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I'm sure I've missed some people. Feel free to add and remind us in the comments.
Today, the Information Technology Administration (ITA) along with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE), announced some Los Angeles E-Democracy, as they call it. What does this mean? Online Council File Index: Keep track of any legislation considered and/or acted upon. Online Council Docs: We...

Today is the 40th anniversary of the beloved reality program, er... television special, "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!". CBS aired this half-hour, Emmy-nominated animation for the first time on October 27, 1966, and the Charles M. Schultz Peanuts masterpiece has been rebroadcast every year since (it changed hands in 2001 when ABC picked up the rights).
Feeling the heat from the controversy stirred up by activists and protests swirling around his hit show Survivor, creator Mark Burnett not only called his critics ignorant but claimed that dividing the teams up by ethnic groups will not make for a racial show. "By putting people in tribes, they clearly have to get rid of people of their own ethnicity," Burnett, who also created NBC hit "The Apprentice", told a group of reporters...

+ Tori Spelling clearly not being asked to be involved in the tribute to her groundbreaking father's career + Kate Jackson's never-ending speech while Farrah Fawcett fidgeted around like she had never worn a dress before + Kate Jackson's awful plastic surgery. If that's really the best that money can buy then + Dick Clark being brave + Steve Colbert's never-ending embrace of Jon Stewart, who now has a full chess set of Emmy...
Last night was Emmy Night. So what did first time amateur ghost hunter/enthusiast, Bekka Reed, do? Go ghost hunting at the Chateau Marmont, which is rumored to be haunted. Did she have any luck, or were there just too many celebrities hanging around after the Emmys? You went out to find ghosts, any luck? Felt definite energy, but no manifestations. I saw many celebrities, but I suck with names. If Heath Ledger weren’t so...
