Despite the fact that their economy was pulverized to bits last year, from a musical standpoint Iceland is coming out on top. In the originality category they're especially strong. It doesn't matter whether you're into Sigur Rós, Múm or Björk you have to admit, they sound like nothing else. Now you can add another name to that list. Sin Fang Bous the new solo project of Sindri Mar Sigfusson, who took some time off from his band Seabear, to write a gorgeous experimental pop album Clangour. Never heard of him? Fair enough, his first show in LA is tonight at the El Rey Theatre, but if you like Animal Collective and Panda Bear, you might want to take a listen. We caught up with Sindri before his show and asked him a few questions.

          

Smirnoff, Univision and KLVE joined forces last night to give a small group of L.A. music fans a great treat. Ozomatli took over the El Rey Theatre and rocked the house to get the weekend started on a good note.

                            

Last Monday, Swedish singer Lykke Li (MySpace) headlined an estrogen-filled night at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, that included local singer-songwriters Emily Wells (MySpace) and Jesca Hoop (MySpace) as well as New York-based Ida (MySpace).

              

Earlier this year, local singer/songwriter Annie Stela (MySpace) performed at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake in Silver Lake, opening with Trainwreck (MySpace) and Hot Hot Heat's Luke Paquin (MySpace) for Rocco DeLuca and The Burden (MySpace).

                                   

Last month, local band The Airborne Toxic Event (MySpace) returned to Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake to headline a show that included The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace), and The Henry Clay People (MySpace) with support from I Make This Sound (MySpace) and Le Switch (MySpace). As aptly described by Mouse from Classical Geek Theatre, "Before a mixed-crowd of longtime fans and recent, true-believing converts, The Airborne Toxic Event rewarded ticket holders with a near flawless-set that could have just as easily been played at The Hollywood Bowl, The Kodak Theatre, or Coachella. There was no melodrama, very little hype, and nobody on stage had to prove anything. It was just the band and their songs; naked, raw, hard-boiled."

              

On Wednesday, local band (and Cobrasnake favorites) The Like (MySpace) reemerged from nearly a year-long hiatus and performed at Club 86 in Hollywood, with a half hour set consisting entirely of newer songs (with the exception of "Release Me").
