Performing for one of KCRW's Berkley Street Sessions(think small studio session opened to about 175 "friends" in Bob Clearmountain's Apogee studio in Santa Monica), the intimate show on April 5 featured the L.A.-based band's new album, Here, which will be released in May.
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros Charm at KCRW's Berkeley Street Session
This Video Will Melt Your Dark Heart
The Daily What's "OMG! Adorbz of the Day" is more than appropriately titled for this video. Please enjoy Jorge Narvaez and his daughter Alexa perform an acoustic cover of “Home” by LA's own Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. Its so good that even the band digs it. Twitter told us.
2010 KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas - Night Two - 12/12/10
Night Two of the 2010 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, could also be dubbed "Hipster Night" as many of the bands featured were or are indie darlings and nearly all have played that big festival in the desert. From the french synth-pop sensations Phoenix to local favorites Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the spectrum of performance was much more broad than that of the more straightforward rock of Night One. Also featured were Florence + The Machine, Vampire Weekend, Brandon Flowers, Neon Trees, Temper Trap and the Broken Bells.
Coachella: Day Two 04/17/10
With so many bands playing, the breadth of Coachella’s line-up can be a curse as well as a blessing. It forces the fans to make a choice between potentially up to 5 acts they may all love. Unfortunately, I have been faced with decisions such as Them Crooked Vultures or Grizzly Bear, Dead Weather/MGMT or Muse, and on Sunday Phoenix/Thom Yorke or Pavement/Gorillaz. Most of these decisions have essentially been an old favorite vs. a curious desire to see a different band. So far, the old favorites are up 2-0.
LAist Was There: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros @ The Mayan, 12/14/09
Last night, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, supported by Fool's Gold and Las Cafeteras, headlined a sold-out show at The Mayan, capping a memorable year for the local band that included performances at the Hammer Museum, the El Rey Theatre, the Abbot Kinney and Manimal Festivals, as well as KCRW's Halloween Masquerade Ball, and even . Though the set was marred by technical difficulties, frontman Alexander Ebert quickly MacGyvered solutions and several times jumped with wild abandon into the all-ages crowd.
Tonight In Rock: Justice, Dirty Projectors, Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros, The Fuxedos
Tonight, much like last year, monolithic Parisian electro duo Justice will be headlining a Hard Haunted Mansion at the Shrine Auditorium that is sure to sate anyone who's craving a dance party. Local indie rock buzz band Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (LAist Review) are poised to take on the Park Plaza Hotel with none other than DJ Shadow, Sea Wolf (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3) and Little Dragon for KCRW's Masquerade Halloween party. And, lastly, LA-based rock outfit the Fuxedos will be throwing a Halloween party of their own at Spaceland. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Jensen Rec Center to catch Brooklyn's crown jewel, the erratic experimental indie rock collective known as Dirty Projectors (LAist Review). Stand outside and listen, go eat tacos at Tacos Arizas—just be there goddamnit!
2nd Annual Manimal Festival w/ Fool's Gold, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, VOICEsVOICEs, Juliette Commagere, The Polyamorous Affair, Warpaint + More @ Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, 10/4 & 10/5/09
Earlier this month, local record label Manimal Vinyl (see our interview last year with its founder) held its 2nd Annual Manimal Festival at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace. "In its second year, the two-day event showcases bands on Paul Beahan's record label... alongside musically bohemian peers," described Daiana Feuer from Papermag. "Manimal's experimental pop catalog -- which began most notably by releasing Bat For Lashes' record two years ago -- lends a unified voice to freak folk and its close cousins, many which are collected on yearly tribute albums to Madonna, The Cure, and in 2010, David Bowie. Manimal's focus mainly follows two streams: The ethereal, spooky soloist tradition [and] the dance beat, taking pop to strange outer space."
Soundcheck: Correatown, Eagle & Talon, The Voyeurs @ The Echo 10/5/09
Local singer-songwriter Angela Correa's band Correatown has held this month's Monday residency at The Echo, and tonight is their final show before embarking next month on a European tour. LAist favorites the LA Ladies Choir and Frank Fairfield are slated to kick things off.

This week Wisconsin-bred folk singer-songwriter Justin Vernon, otherwise known as Bon Iver (LAist Review), will be performing at the Wiltern with none other than Durham's own Megafaun and by himself at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Local indie rockers Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are poised to take on not only the El Rey Theatre, but the Abbot Kinney Music Festival later on in the week as well. Telefon Tel Aviv, a Chicago-based experimental electronic duo that experienced the unexpected passing of one of its two members—Charles Cooper—at the beginning of the year, will be making a triumphant return to Spaceland. And, lastly, French "freak folk" outfit CocoRosie will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box.
Tonight In Rock: Friendly Fires, Richard Swift, The Henry Clay People, Fool's Gold
