In the world of internet film geekery, your seen-list is roughly equivalent to your penis size (the difference being that you actually use your seen-list on a regular basis). For a film geek as revered as Edgar Wright to publicly declare he hasn't seen X is a brave move on his part and a wonderful opportunity on ours, since he's made "Movies Edgar Has Never Seen" the theme of his latest Wright Stuff festival at the New Beverly!

Weekend Movie Guide 07/29: Cowboys, Kids & Aliens
We like cowboys, we like aliens, but we're having trouble rounding up excitement for Cowboys & Aliens. The credits pack a lot of heat, but where's the cattle?
LAist Film Calendar 01/27-01/30: Oscar Catch Up, Roman Polanski & Claude Chabrol
Yesterday's announcement of the Academy Awards nominees leave you scratching your head? Laemmle's got your back. From heavy hitters like Black Swan & True Grit to lower-profile offerings like Ozarks noir Winter's Bone & Aussie crime drama Animal Kingdom, pretty much everything that wasn't already playing there is coming back this week. Blockbusters Inception & Toy Story 3 are notable exceptions, but there are redboxes on every corner & sales in every big box for those.
LAist Film Calendar 01/13-01/16: Edgar Wright Returns to the New Beverly!
Told you so! Edgar Wright returns to the New Beverly for a triple feature of his films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz & Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and both Friday and Saturday night shows sold out in 4 minutes. But don't despair! This is but the opening night of an entire month of The Wright Stuff, a series programmed by the eclectic English entertainer.
LAist Film Calendar 01/06-01/09: LACMA Hits The Road, Cinefamily Has Dogteeth
The year's just begun, and LACMA already wants to drop out. Their Golden Age of Road Movies series kicks off this week with counterculture combos Five Easy Pieces & Play It As It Lays (Friday night) and Easy Rider & Zabriskie Point (Saturday night). Actress Karen Black appears in-person after Five Easy Pieces, whereas Saturday's program goes a little easier on the pieces, halving LACMA's standard admission to $5. It's all in conjunction with LACMA's William Eggleston exhibition, which doesn't hit the road until January 16th.
LAist Interview: The Writers of Scott Pilgrim
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World shares its title with the second book in the six-book series of graphic novels on which the film is based. I drove straight to a Los Angeles screening of the film from Comic-Con, having never read a page of the comic that inspired the film, and not quite knowing what to expect. It was awesome. You don’t have to be familiar with the books to enjoy the movie, but if you enjoy the movie you’re going to want to read all the books. I did, and managed to finish Book Six just in time to make it to a second screening of the film last night, which rocked just as much as the first time around.
Box Office Review: Stallone on top! What year is it?
Sylvester Stallone continued the late-career resurgence started by Rocky Balboa by virtually willing The Expendables to the top of the box-office heap. The nostalgic piece of pulp hauled in $35M to easily dispatch Eat Pray Love ($23.7M). Last week's champ, The Other Guys, enjoyed a strong hold in its second weekend ($18M | $70.5M) while Inception continued to print money ($11.3M | $248.5M). The wonderful Scott Pilgrim vs. the World failed to catch fire and only earned a disappointing $10.5M.
Weekend Movie Guide: See Scott Pilgrim!
How odd that the weekend of August 13th would turn out to be the most intriguing one of the summer. Many of you will probably not see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and that would be a huge mistake. I blame Universal for its lack of buzz because -- trust me -- the movie is so much better than the trailers show. Even if you have never picked up a comic book or played a video game, you will enjoy this sweet, fantastical film. The so-called "guy" movie this weekend is The Expendables. Eh, I'll wait until it goes into heavy rotation on TNT.
The Wright Stuff at the New Beverly Cinema
For me, Edgar Wright is one of those directors whose films I see the moment they hit theaters. Both share a comic spirit that never diminishes even after many viewings. This past August, Wright hosted several sold-out screenings of his films at the New Beverly Cinema and starting December 2nd the New Beverly will turn over its programming reins to him for what is sure to be a rollicking time.
Screw Eric Clapton, Simon Pegg is God!
A hat tip to Quint over at AICN for alerting me to this little bit of coolness happening next week. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two of my absolutely favorite movies from the past few years. Shaun has been in heavy rotation at home and Fuzz will surely follow now that it's out on DVD.
DVD Tuesday: Spartans! Tonight! We dine! In WeHo!
Ten years from now we may look back at 300 as the movie that heralded the final shift away from the star-driven, mega-budget blockbuster paradigm. In an increasingly risk-managed world, why not spend 60 million dollars on a whole movie instead of 25 million on Tom Cruise or one of the Wills? Hot Fuzz signals the definite arrival of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg that was so strongly hinted at in Shaun of the Dead. Ray Harryhausen fans should be stoked about the new release of the legend's 20 Million Miles to Earth. Paulo Costanzo fans should feel likewise about Everything's Gone Green. Maybe. Me? I'm all about The Archie Show.
New Movie Friday: Hot Fuzz, Vacancy
Hot Fuzz - The guys who made the brilliant zombie spoof Shaun of the Dead, writer/director Edgar Wright and co-writer/star Simon Pegg, reteam for Hot Fuzz, what looks to be a hilarious spoof on the police thriller. Jealous colleagues have London's best cop (Simon Pegg) transferred to the peaceful village of Sandford, where he is partnered with an enthusiastic but witless police officer (Nick Frost) who longs for gunfights and car chases to break up the monotony of small-town policing. When the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents, it looks like Sandford may not be such an idyllic burg after all.
