A caped avenger with a Queens of the Stone Age T-shirt were among the fans who raced to the front of the stage as soon as the doors of the Henry Fonda Theater opened on Wednesday. The lady in question wore her cape with a grace that even Dracula would have envied. Among the other die hard Eagles of Death Metal fans included several men who greased their hair like the lead singer, Jesse Hughes. As the crowd began to trickle in, it became abundantly apparent that the fans had come dressed to kill. Leather jackets with chains, black jeans, and leather boots were in abundance. And why not? The bands that they had come to see had made their mark not just with their music, but by embodying what it was to be a rock star.

Tonight Palm Desert-bred rockers Eagles of Death Metal will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box. Brooklyn-based punk/dance duo Matt & Kim are slated to perform at the Troubadour with experimental rockers the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2) in tow. LAist favorites the Soft Pack (formerly known as the Muslims) are slated to rock with San Diegan garage rock outfit Crocodiles at the Echo early on in the night. English electro-pop sensation Little Boots will be gracing the stage at Spaceland. And, lastly, local indie rockers Castledoor (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6) are poised to play Bordello. But we strongly suggest stopping by the Silver Lake Lounge to see electro-pop songstress Glasser.
The Eagles of Death Metal want to be in LA and I don't blame them. Some killer fuzz bass on this track too.
So its pretty much obvious at this point how excited we've been about the latest installment of Midnight Club taking place in our beloved city. Well the date has finally arrived, and what better way to uphold the Rockstar name than having Hollywood's quintessential rock n' rollers Eagles of Death Metal performing at the game's midnight launch event at the Virgin Megastore? The group has long stated its passion for establishing themselves as LA's band, and with their new album launching in just a few weeks, we can't wait to get our hands on the game and check out some new tracks included on the Midnight Club playlist.
"The Hives have rocked stadiums of 40,000 or more! You 1200 people should present no problem...," bombastically declared Hives' frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist to the Mayan Theatre crowd last Thursday night (9/25/08).
Tonight we find Los Angeles amidst a flurry of relatively pedestrian shows, including local indie rock heavyweights the Cold War Kids (LAist Review), who just concluded their stop by KCRW a few short minutes ago, New York City-based electro-pop masterminds Brazilian Girls (LAist Interview) and Swedish rock band the Hives. If you're as bummed as we are about Glasser's cancellation of their gig at the poorly-lit dive 3 of Clubs, then get your dose of underground greatness elsewhere. Aaron Embry of AmniOn's "solo" performances have steadily garnered him wide acclaim. Acknowledged as a musical genius by many, Embry actually played keys for Elliott Smith before Smith's untimely death. He'll be playing the Tangier Restaurant in Los Feliz. But the lineup at Spaceland tonight intrigues us most. Specifically, Obi Best. Or rather Alex Lilly, who can generally be found singing back-ups for the Bird and the Bee. Lilly has penned a whimsical new record that rivals, if not exceeds, the Bird and the Bee's sing-song brand of saccharine pop.
