TV Junkie: Back - Bigger and Deafer; Daytime Emmys; Fire

Fire on the Mountain (not the Grateful Dead song): With the LA fires again making national and international news, we recall our recent interview with The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore who specifically talked about the built up areas of the Angeles National Forest. You heard it here first.

TV Junkie: Hasbro/Discovery TV; Disney/Hulu TV; Web Series News

Hasbro and the Discovery Channel(??) are forming a children's TV network together to launch sometime next year. I'm hoping to see the "MythBusters" guys blow up some My Little Ponys. --- In the kinda old news category, Disney has now bought 30% of Hulu which means ABC shows like "Lost" will now be available on the web network.

TV Junkie: 'The Soup', 'The Soup', 'The Soup' Is On Fire

Weekend EditionLast night the TV Junkie was very fortunate to be invited to the taping of "The Soup" which will air on E! tonight at 10pm. It was a fantastic experience made all the more special by a great special guest and some hilarious shenanigans. Charming and kind host Joel McHale and executive producers KP Anderson and Edward Boyd (very fun men in their own right) gave us a few minutes for a video piece that will be posted later tonight. "The Soup" has always been a weekly gem and to see it being put together before one's eyes was an amazing experience. We're so fortunate to have this team at E! process and present a week's worth of TV and pop culture for us with just the right perspective of smart and biting humor. Watch it tonight, it's even better than usual.

TV Junkie: Boston NBC Affiliate Says 'No' to New Leno Show

Unless you are a basketball or baseball fan, this weekend's options are kind of slim - feel free to sift through our picks - what are you going to watch? If it's not on our list, let us know and we'll talk about it.

TV Junkie: Bad HBO, No Donut; The Streamys on Sat.; Gaffigan on Sun.

The Internet is abuzz today with promotion of HBO's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" to air this Sunday. Some writer's are pointing out that the show doesn't address any of the problems going on in Africa these days (AIDS, war, famine, rape, pillaging of natural resource) - instead it depicts a laid-back and idyllic place with only quaint soap opera-esque concerns.

TV Junkie: 'Battlestar Galactica' - Vaya Con Dios

Tonight marks the end of "Battlestar Galactica", for about 20 years until the geeks of the future resurrect it like they did the now-campy 1970s version. Some have complained that this final season swung the show onto a science-fiction track that was too science-fiction-y but the show had to return to its roots, its core, before wandering off into the cosmos.

TV Junkie: Baldwin on TCM; 'Breaking Bad' Returns! 'Ashes to Ashes' Debuts

Sunday @ 10pm features the return of AMC's incredible series, "Breaking Bad", with Bryan Cranston (pictured, right) as Walt White, the terminally-ill high school science teacher-turned meth cooker. We've been eagerly waiting for this show to resume and AMC has done a great job whetting our appetite with their sneak webisodes and other promos. Since the other stuff we like to watch on Sunday's @ 10pm are available on-demand, this is one of our prime picks of the weekend.

TV Junkie: Thank You Conan O'Brien

Tonight marks the last broadcast of Conan O'Brien on "Late Night..." and what a ride it's been. From being a virtual unknown in front of the camera, O'Brien is now a staple of late night television. O'Brien's resurrection of NBC's "Late Night" after the departure of David Letterman to CBS was not easy and the first few years were very tenuous ones for the wild haired funnyman. With support from Lorne Michaels, O'Brien was given enough time to build an audience, something almost unheard of these days.

TV Junkie: Pacitti Yanked from 'Idol'; Oscar Broadcast News; FOX Fridays

Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit.

TV Junkie: Super Bowl XLIII Weekend Edition

A lot of our sport fan/fiend friends are convinced that this Sunday's Super Bowl event will be a boring blow out - "the Cardinals will win how?" is oft heard. But for a lot of media dorks, ourselves included, the Super Bowl is all about the ads. We already know that GoDaddy and PETA have had their ads denied (as must have been planned for). Adweek's Barbara Lippert analyzes past Super Bowl commercial foibles as well as a list of all expected advertisers for XLIII. On Saturday, CBS also takes a trip down memory lane with a program on the "best" commercials of years past.

TV Junkie: 'Flight of the Conchords' Returns on Sunday; 'The Office' and '30 Rock' Renewed!

A lot of programs return to or make their premiere on premium cable this Sunday including: "Big Love", "The L Word", "The United States of Tara", and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl". What we most eagerly anticipate is the season premiere of "Flight of the Conchords". The pair of musicians and their hapless manager, all hailing from New Zealand, might not have made a second season due to low viewership but their cult like following gave us one more. So enjoy every episode like a smooth New Zealand Merlot, savor it, because this might be their last run, on HBO at least.

The bachelorette DeAnna Pappas and her fiance Jesse Csincsak have broken up and poor Seth Green just can't handle the sad news.

Looks like HBO will buy a documentary on president-elect Barack Obama and will air it in 2009. The documentary was produced by actor Edward Norton's production company, Class 5 Films, and was bought "in the seven-figure range". A nice bet by Norton paid off evidently.

You know Hal Sparks from hosting "Talk Soup" on E!, or as Michael from "Queer as Folk", or even from VH1's "I Love the..." series. Sparks has a local appearance before heading back out on national tour. He's also got a TV show and a couple feature films in the works, not to mention voicing Tak in Nikelodeon's "Tak & the Power of Juju" - LAist was pleased to be able to ask the busy Sparks a few questions before his appearance tonight at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills with fellow "Talk Soup" alum, Aisha Tyler.

If you thought you'd seen the controversial trailer for Oliver Stone's W., look again. The Soup offers their version for the upcoming biopic.

Shark Week winds down - I'm almost all sharked out anyways, plus the TV Junkie will be heading for a week's vacation at the beach so he was getting a little freaked out.

If you aren't familiar, Clinton Sparks has rapidly risen from the basement of his mother's house in Boston to an elite DJ, producer and on-air personality. Recently, the host of the nationally syndicated Smashtime Radio and producer of numerous classic mixtapes like the first two volumes of the "We Got it 4 Cheap" series by The Clipse and The Re-Up Gang, has crossed over into cable television as the music correspondent for E!'s The Daily 10. A man on the go, criss-crossing the country from coast-to-coast to throw down some of the biggest parties in the country's top clubs, to producing beats for A-list artists to appearing on your television screen, Clinton took a little time to talk with LAist prior to boarding his flight from Las Vegas, where he hosts Daily 10 Smashtime Saturdays at Body English, to LA.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, the best designers on Project Runway this season are from Los Angeles. In my holiday wish, I see Rami Kashou, Sweet P, and Kit Pistol in the final three and visions of their collections on the runway in the finale.

Speaking of TV, LAista Julie Wolfson interviewed E!'s Soup host Joel McHale so be sure to check that post out as well as The Soup Presents... tonight for a review of 2007's "best" talk show moments.

Joel McHale hosts The Soup, a celebration of the most embarrassing moments in pop culture every Friday night on E! From Tila Tequila to Yo Gabba Gabba you can count on The Soup to gather all the "best of" moments into one big pot of funny. LAist headed to the E! studios for a backstage tour, taping of the show, and one on one with the man who is not afraid to say Oprah's Va-Jay-Jay on national television. When we arrived Joel was in the makeup chair prepping for the show.

A couple things on tonight but Saturday's a wasteland, go play in the sand or snow. Sunday is finale-city, check it out below. Have a great weekend.

You’re probably wondering why we’ve waited so long to cover the first episode of E!’s reality series The Girls Next Door: Season 4. I would wonder too. But thanks to the nearly bi-nightly syndication of each new episode, there’s no reason to fret, and I’m happy to be able to bring you a little Wednesday coverage of Episode 1: "Patriot Dames"! But first, a little history. Despite the fact that Hef’s girlfriends Bridget, Holly and...

If you don't want to watch football over the next 4 days you are screwed. Normally I would tell you to head over to TCM or IFC for some fine movie action but it's slim pickins my friends. TCM has (lamely) decided to schedule a 3 day Andy Hardy marathon starring everyone's favorite short actor, Mickey Rooney, as the misguided but lovable Andy Hardy. One or two Andy Hardy movies is fine, but several days...

We're not even gay and we love Kathy Griffin. In fact of all the people who have tried to fill the shoes of Joan Rivers on the Red Carpet, we believe that Kathy did it better than all of them combined. And what was her reward? E! put her way up as far off the red carpet as they could so as not to fluster the celebs. Poor babies. And poor viewers. Kathy has...

One of the more fascinating new shows on E! is a reality series about a new tanning salon here in LA called "Sunset Tan". The hero of the show appears to be a young gay manager who has to deal with ditzy employees and some oddballs on the management level, to say the least. Variety says that the show will have a dead person whose last request was to get a tan. But even...

We knew something was wrong. In November we asked "Does the Hollywood Christmas Parade Try to Suck?", and little did we know it wasn't spasticly waving, it was drowning. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce yesterday said they lost $100k on the parade last year and would probably lose $200k this year. Which is a lot for something that sucks as much as it does, so they're ending the parade forever. But just because something...

For years you've heard Tom McNamara even if you didn't see him. As the Stage Manager at E! you could hear him laugh off screen during "Talk Soup", "Coming Attractions", all the Red Carpet events, and now during "The Soup". E!'s studios are very small and rarely is there a live audience so the "studio audience" is usually a few cameramen, some producers, and Tom. A long time ago Tom's little "whooooo"s started to...

- Beyonce will be holding auditions in LA for background dancers for her new tour at Alley Kat Studio in Hollywood on December 6th and 7th - SOHH - An environmentalist heckler interrupted a speech by the president of GM yesterday and asked him to sign a weird contract to be the fuel economy leader, which is silly because Schwinn is the leader - AP - First E! gave Ryan Seacrest $21 million to...

We're bouncing back and forth between the NBC and E! red carpet broadcasts. Woah, Dean Cain is carpeteering for NBC and he still looks like Scott Peterson. Dean, it's time to lose the highlights.
