A DUI checkpoint in Lancaster yielded a drunken 25-year-old man and a link to a deadly pedestrian hit-and-run when officers noticed blood on the vehicle. The driver, sidro Peralta of Littlerock, was booked Saturday, according to police, "on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and felony driving under the influence," reports the Daily News.

DUI Checkpoint Tonight in Harbor Division Area, 6 PM - 1 AM
The Crime Task Force/Driving Under the Influence (CTF/DUI) Detail of the LAPD's South Traffic Division will be conducting a DUI checkpoint tonight in order to curtail drunk driving and educate the public. The checkpoint is slated to run from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Avalon Boulevard and Opp Street [map] in Wilmington. The LAPD explains that their " Harbor Division has experienced a 14 percent increase in Driving Under the Influence related traffic collisions year to date as compared to 2009. The checkpoint will serve as a reminder to the community of Southeast Division to use designated drivers and not drink and drive."
DUI Checkpoint Near USC Campus Tonight
LAPD this summer is aggressively trying to rid the roads of drunk drivers by holding a mixture of announced and unannounced checkpoints every weekend. Tonight, they tip their hats to one of them going going on between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. near USC's campus and Exposition Park at Figueroa Street and 41st Street. "Our message is simple: if we catch you driving drunk, you will be arrested," says the LAPD.
DUI Checkpoint Tonight in North Hollywood
The LAPD want you to have many more future Saturday nights alive, so tonight they'll be running a sobriety and license checkpoint in the North Hollywood area as part of their ongoing effort to get drunk drivers off the road and educate the public about the perils of driving while intoxicated. The checkpoint will run from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Cahugena Boulvevard West at Broadlawn Drive [map] which means that if you are using the Cahuenga Pass to go between Hollywood and the southeast Valley tonight, be sure to have a designated driver or ride the Red Line. The summer months tend to result in more accidents and deaths connected with drunk driving than in other months. Be safe and smart.

A Friday night tradition in Los Angeles, the LAPD tonight will hold at least one DUI checkpoint in the city this weekend. They do not have to announce all checkpoints, meaning there could be more out there. Moral of the story? Never ever drink and drive. Tonight's announced checkpoint will be in Windsor Hills along Slauson Avenue between Buckler Avenue and Edgemar Avenue (map) from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Statewide in 2008, 7,801 people were injured or killed during the summer months.

The LAPD will be running a Sobriety & Drivers License Checkpoint tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Hollywood, on Sunset Boulevard between Genesee Avenue and Spaulding Avenue. This is part of their ongoing effort to remove alcohol-impaired drivers from the road and to educate the public about the dangers of driving while intoxicated. The summer months are particularly dangerous for motorists; the LAPD says that in 2008 "law enforcement statewide reported that 7, 801 people were injured or killed during the three summer months of June, July and August."
DUI Checkpoints in Venice & Studio City Tonight
It's Friday, which means the LAPD is out in force. While the department doesn't announce all checkpoints, they do announce some. Those include in Venice at Venice Boulevard and Walgrove Avenue and in Studio City along Ventura Boulevard somewhere between Eureka Drive and Fruitland Drive. Summer months are notoriously known for drinking and driving incidents. Statewide, 7,801 people were either injured or killed during June, July and August in 2008.

As always on the weekends, there are DUI checkpoints. Some are announced, some are not. At least one organized by the LAPD tonight will be set up in the Cahuenga Pass tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Cahuenga Boulevard between Lankershim and Broadlawn (map). That's right near a Metro Red Line subway station. "The summer months are a dangerous time of the year and your odds of being involved in an alcohol involved collision can be high," the LAPD cited in a news release. "In 2008 law enforcement statewide reported that 7, 801 people were injured or killed during the three summer months of June, July and August." They say if you see a suspected drunk driver, call 911.
DUI Checkpoint in South L.A. Tonight
The LAPD will be conducting a DUI checkpoint in South Los Angeles tonight as part of their ongoing effort to remove intoxicated drivers from the streets and to educate the public about the dangers of drunk driving. Tonight's checkpoint will be set up on Manchester Blvd. between Hoover and Figueroa [map] which is in the LAPD's Southeast Division. That area "has experienced a 54 percent increase in Driving Under the Influence related traffic collisions year to date as compared to 2009," says the LAPD. The checkpoint will run from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
