A man driving a stolen car made a clever escape from police today by driving off the edge of a cliff, then managing to stroll off from the scene of the crash. City News Service reports that the man was pulled over at around 1:45 p.m. on Malibu Canyon Road, about a mile away from the Pacific Coast Highway. According to ABC Local, several passengers got out of the car -- a Honda Element -- upon being asked to by police, but the driver refused.

A motorist ended up getting stuck in an unusual spot this morning after she drove into the Verdugo Wash thinking it was a freeway. The 53-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, took her Mercedes as fast as 70 miles per hour until she ended up near San Fernando Road and Grange Street in Glendale.
Cycling Advocate Calls for More Drivers License Checkpoints
The feud between drivers and cyclists runs deep in Los Angeles. Now, a local cycling advocate is asking the city to set up more license checkpoints for drivers. Alex de Cordoba was riding his bike in Echo Park when, he says in a Huffington Post column, he was "nearly killed by a hit and run driver." A week later, while driving to work, he noticed a checkpoint for unlicensed drivers -- and a man holding a sign to alert fellow car enthusiasts.

A man who pulled his car off to the side of the 210 freeway was shot last night while sitting in the vehicle, reports KTLA. The car was stopped on the right side of the road and was sitting on the shoulder, near the San Bernadino Ave. exit.
Teen Crashes Into Taco Stand and 3 Pedestrians During Driving Lesson
A teenager having a driving lesson with her dad last night got herself closer to a felony than her license after a crash that left three people injured. The girl was driving with her father in the front seat and another teenage girl in the backseat when she plowed "through a gate, into a parking lot [and] hitting three pedestrians and destroying a taco stand," according to the Daily Breeze.
Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian on the Sunset Strip [Update]
A 21-year-old woman walking in a crosswalk was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Sunset Strip last night in West Hollywood, according to KTLA.
According to witnesses, the woman had been at a concert at the Roxy, and was walking just ahead of a group of people when she crossed Sunset Boulevard at Hammond Street just before midnight last night.
Cab Driver Crashes Into House After Passengers Said the Fare was Unfair
After dropping off a couple honeymooning in Los Angeles from Italy last night in the Cahuenga Pass, the driver of a Beverly Hills Cab vehicle deliberately crashed the taxi into their final destination following a dispute about the fare, according to the Daily News.
11-Year-Old Boy Killed in South L.A. Hit and Run
11-year-old Natanael Garcia was walking in a designated crosswalk at 76th and Hoover Street on the afternoon of July 15th when he was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. The LAPD say that the motorist briefly stopped her vehicle but did not exit the car, offer aid, or identify herself as the law dictates. The police are looking for the driver and the vehicle involved. She is described as "a female, Hispanic, with a long pony tail. She was driving a black or dark blue, large sports utility vehicle, with tan trim around the bottom, and stock wheels." Van Nuys: Car Hits 3 at Bus Stop, Leaves 1 in Critical
Okay, what was in the air yesterday? At approximately 4:36 p.m., a 60-year-old male driver ran into a bus stop, injuring three others and himself, according to Devin Gales at the Los Angeles Fire Department. Everyone was transported to area hospitals in minor condition except one 25-year-old female who was left in critical condition. The bus stop was located on the 14300 block of Vanowen near Van Nuys Blvd. Earlier. Earlier in the day a few miles away, a bicyclist was killed by a LADWP contractor. In Venice around the same time, a man was dragged under a bus leaving him dead.
