Drive-By in Daylight Claims Life of NoHo Teen

It happened yesterday afternoon in broad daylight; 14-year old Baudelio Guadalupe Jara was walking near Cantlay Street and Vineland Avenue, just north of Sherman Way in North Hollywood when he was "killed in an apparent drive-by shooting." The Daily News reports that Jara was fired at by the passenger of a "gray compact car," who issued several shots; the vehicle sped away and was "last seen traveling southbound on Vineland Avenue toward Sherman Way." Although some sections of North Hollywood see some violent activity, the fact that this took place midday is what is particularly striking. Sadly, Jara "had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries." Police are working to piece together what happened and why, and ask that anyone who knows anything about the incident to call North Hollywood Homicide Detectives at (818) 623-4075 or (877) LAPD-24-7.

It was rough riding last night on the streets of Long Beach, as there were two reported drive-by shootings within 30 minutes of each other and a wrong-way driver killed in a head-on collision. The shootings are thought to involve a maroon-colored van that authorities are asking locals be on the lookout for; a total of four people were wounded between 2 and 3 a.m. in the attacks. The car crash involved a man in a Honda who collided with a shuttle bus head on when he'd swerved into opposing traffic while speeding on the Queensway Bridge. The driver, who wasn't carrying ID, died on scene.
