Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is encouraging residents and businesses to help support the hundreds of displaced families due to the Sayre Fire by donating to the Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, the organizations that is acting as the lead agency on shelter management and the current relief effort.

An e-mail is floating around pointing out Southern California restaurant high ranking employees or owners who donated to Yes on Prop 8, which sought to eliminate gay marriage. The author of the e-mail, who wished to remain anonymous wrote "it's wrong to penalize those whose employees were the ones that donated, of course, so this list is limited only to ownership and decision-making upper management. Still, the results are surprising. All of these results are freely available to verify yourself." Outraised by $10 million and with polls taking a turn, now showing Prop 8 winning, opponents of the initiative that seeks to eliminate gay marriage on the November ballot sent out a "critical" e-mail this afternoon saying that their "worst nightmares are coming true."

As more celebrities join the No on Prop 8 campaign, Pete Wentz being the latest big name following Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg, gay political activist Jonathan Lewis, an entrepreneur from Ohio, has challenged Hollywood to donate to fight the proposition that seeks to eliminate gay marriage in California. "With Election Day five weeks away, we are concerned that the entertainment industry hasn't stepped up to the plate to fight this unnecessary initiative,” Lewis said in a statement. "My family and I are issuing a $500,000 challenge to the entertainment industry. We will match the next half-million dollars that entertainment industry leaders contribute."

$2 million was raised at the Los Angeles Equality Awards held in Los Angeles this past Saturday. Most of the donations went towards Equality California's NO on 8 campaign, which opposes the proposed ban on gay marriage in California. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU-California) donated $500,000, the California Teacher’s Association announced a contribution $250,000 and AT&T donated $25,000, according to the WeHoNews. Equality California also donated a half million of their own money not collected at the fundraiser that night.

We've been following Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate gay marriage on the November ballot, for some time now. The trend, as of late, has been that new issues and announcements come one at a time, maybe every other day. But more recently, the twists and turns in navigating the proposition has been more than a daily one.

As officials count petition signatures that urge putting gay marriage on the November ballot in an effort to try to ban it again, the money contribution games have begun, reports the Mercury News. On the pro gay-rights side, large donations have come in as well as a half million dollar contribution from the Human Rights Campaign. Add that to the $577,000 raised during the first quarter of the calendar year.
