$637,159 a Month in Spousal Support in Dodgers Owners Divorce

Yeesh. That's a lot of money, but then again, Jamie McCourt originally wanted $988,845 a month. The decision by L.A. County Superior Court commissioner Scott Gordon based mainly upon costs associated with seven properties the Dodger owner-couple bought, according to the LA Times. That will have major consequences on the divorce and will go to trial in August. more ›

Initiative to Ban Divorce in California Fails to Qualify for Ballot

Looks like the tradition of divorce is safe for now. The initiative to place a proposition on the ballot to eliminate the law allowing married couples to divorce failed to qualify, the Secretary of State's office announced yesterday. The 2010 California Marriage Protection Act was "the brain-child of concerned Christian and political activist John Marcotte, who felt strongly that Prop 8 did not go far enough in protecting traditional marriage." Touché! According to the state's Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance, banning divorce would have saved the state "up to hundreds of millions of dollars annually for support of the court system due to the elimination of divorce proceedings." more ›
