Tonight local indie rock buzz band Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' (LAist Review) will be performing at the Abbot Kinney Music Festival with Eskimo Hunter, the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) , Chief and Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview, Review). San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos are poised to headline the El Rey Theatre with Auckland's own indie pop outfit the Ruby Suns and London-bred experimental post-rock collective Sian Alice Group in tow. And, lastly, Sacramento-based dance-infused punk act Chk Chk Chk (!!!) will be headlining the Troubadour with none other than Houston-based psych-infused noise anomaly Indian Jewelry. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Knitting Factory in Hollywood to catch Berkeley-bred hip hop producer and rapper Jel and labelmate Odd Nosdam, who will be performing amongst many others for the 2nd Annual Longhair Illuminati Arts & Music Festival. LAist favorites Tweak Bird, Warpaint (LAist Review, #2, #3), Blank Blue and Slang Chickens are slated to take stage as well.

At the end of Fucked Up’s powerful, frenetic set, frontman Pink Eyes looks out at the crowd and says something along the lines of “You can say we played the Hipster Woodstock. You can say we play punk rock. One thing I know, my hips are in a state of shock.” It’s actually a fitting summary of last Saturday’s FYF festival - whose crowd is a healthy cross-section of young hipsters, and aging punk rockers with bad hips. I’m not entirely sure of the significance, but there seems to be a poetic irony in the proliferation of teenagers in Black Flag T-shirts and forty-somethings in Vivian Girls T-shirts.

                       

Long lines and food shortages aside, it would be hard to call the FYF Fest anything but a success. Now in it's sixth year, an inspired lineup and a great cause made the "hipster Woodstock" the most successful F-Yeah yet. This week Cleveland-bred industrial rockers NIN will be performing not two, not three, but four farewell shows with Danish rockers Mew and local noise-infused rock outfit HEALTH in tow. Illinois-bred Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan will be playing to a sold-out crowd at the Hotel Café. And, lastly, the sixth annual F Yeah Fest, which boasts a bevy of artists including: the Black Lips, Tim & Eric, No Age, Lightning Bolt, Lucero, Converge, the Thermals, Glass Candy, Fucked Up, Matt Skiba, Times New Viking, Japanther, Mika Miko, Telepathe, Crystal Antlers, Darker My Love, AA Bondy, Wavves, Dios, Peanut Butter Wolf, the Strange Boys, Ninjasonik, Cold Cave, Har Mar Superstar, Avi Buffalo and Kurt Vile, will be taking place at Los Angeles State Historic Park. And, lastly, local indie rock act Division Day (LAist Review, #2, #3) will be gracing Spaceland with LA-based indie pop outfit and labelmates Bad Veins for this week's edition of Club NME.

Tonight Anaheim-based ska-infused pop outfit No Doubt will be headlining the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater twice with Grammy-nominated pop punk outfit Paramore and Swedish new wave rockers the Sounds in tow. Virginia Beach-based funk/hip hop group N*E*R*D are poised to take on the Avalon. And, lastly, Chicago-based pop rock trio Company of Thieves are poised to grace Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to Loft 265 in Downtown to catch local "bohemian glam" duo the Polyamorous Affair. LAist favorites Dios (LAist Interview, Review, #2) are slated to kick things off.
