So I went to see Band of Horses and Dinosaur Jr. a week ago at The Wiltern, mostly to see the former because they have become one of my all time favorite bands, Everything All The Time certainly one of my desert island albums. But I was also excited to see Dinosaur Jr., because, although I have to admit I never heard much of their music, "Feel The Pain" is actually one of my......

It's amazing that the best rock record to come out in 2007 is by a band a gray haired guy who shreds harder and better than kids half his age. The return of the OG lineup of Dinosaur Jr. is something that should be celebrated, experienced, and savored. Beyond is old school grungy rock with omg guitar solos that twist and spiral and soar like nothing that is being played by today's mascara-wearing youth.......

If you go as far west as you can in West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd., right before you wind up in Beverly Hills you will see the Troubadour - one of the most famous rock clubs in the world - established in 1957. Home of the Eagles, Jackson Browne, Elton John, and Linda Ronstadt in the '60s and '70s, the warm, rich club also saw the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and......

1. Go running on Los Feliz Blvd in the evenings, to get the anger out. (It's well-lit, fairly level, and a little exhilarating with all the cars rushing by. Just mind the sprinklers at 8.) 2. Hang out in Studio City or Burbank, etc. There's something oddly cheerful and reliable about that area. 3. Make frequent, unapologetic Pinkberry and gelato trips. 4. Go to the Griffith Observatory and see the Planetarium. That is some uplifting......

LA is home to dozens of classic, independent, badass rock clubs. Many of these clubs helped launch most of your favorite groups. But those bands would have never made it on stage if it wasn't for the booker, the person who actually hires the bands to play the show on the particular date. Wednesday we introduced you to Patrick from Safari Sam's. Today we are very happy to share with you the all caps......

The assignment was simple - of all the great music that gets sent to us, I had to pick the top ten new cds whose street dates were between January 1, 2007 - June 15, 2007. Despite the fact that so many good records have come out in that time the selections were surprisingly easy to come about. 10. Datarock Datarock Datarock Nettwerk Music Released in the US: June 12, 2007 Datarock - "Bulldozer"......

A collection of tunes from several of the bands/musicians reviewed or highlighted by LAist staffers during the month of May 2007. This isn't a comprehensive compilation of everyone mentioned on LAist in May but it's a pretty good sampler. LAist Mix May 2007: Patti Smith - Smells Like Teen Spirit Aloe Blacc - Arrive Dazz Band - Let It Whip Bright Eyes - Four Winds Bebel Gilberto - Tranquilo Antelope - Reflector Dinosaur Jr. -......

A fairly mundane week of new releases. Hannibal Rising has a definite Queen of the Damned stench to it. Never saw the original Eating Out but folks sure are lining up to buy the sequel. Sharon Stone's beaver in glorious 1080i! Wayne Knight's accompanying flop-sweat in glorious 1080i! Will probably hold off on buying the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition since I hear the Superman Double Ultimate Collector's Edition is coming this Christmas. Kevin Dillon's......

In their first official show of their world tour, Dinosaur Jr. treated last night's show in West Hollywood like the warm-up gig that they probably booked it as - sticking to new songs, tracks from the first two records, and only a few of the hits, including that Cure cover that sounds exactly like the Cure. They also seemed to forget to hire a competent sound man as the one running the board last......

His name is J Mascis. He has long gray hair and looks like he practices Witchcraft, or plays Warcraft. Indeed he practices the guitar and plays with Dinosaur Jr. which could easily be the soundtrack to a nice carpet bombing. Bringer of piercing solos and bittersweet lyrics, Mascis and the original members of the grunge-era group begin their US tour in our fine burb tonight at the Troubadour with another show tomorrow. While it's......

Congratulations to our Keane winner Stephanie. She will be seeing Keane tonight at the Gibson, not the Greek, the Gibson. After the fire a few concerts had to be moved from the Greek to the Gibson, so if you have tickets to the show tonight head to Universal Studios, not the smoldering hills of Los Feliz. We're also being told not to miss Anjani @ Hotel Cafe tonight where she will be being presented......

Some press releases say it all. Few. But some. Look at the loveliness of this press release and join us as we sigh in contentment :The classic Sebadoh line-up of Lou Barlow, Eric Gaffney and Jason Loewenstein has re-united and will tour the US for the first time in 14 years in the spring of 2007. Sebadoh began in 1987 as the solo project of Dinosaur Jr. bassist Lou Barlow, who quickly teamed up......

Celebrate Ben Franklin's 300th birthday with the Bikini Bandits and Phillyist! (NSFW). Speaking of Mr. Franklin, send in a picture of Ben (or Ed Rendell) with a red tongue and win a free t-shirt. And they might have the next YearlyKos in Philly. You know who's going to be upset about those Bikini Bandits? The Houston school system. Houstonist also reports on some redevelopment shenanigans over a landmark theater. LAist's sex advice column on......

Cam’Ron Killa Season (Diplomatic Man) – He’s straight-up gangsta. In the last two years he’s hunted internet pedophiles, gotten shot and beefed with Jay-Z. Some critics complain that the beats on this album sound too much like the last one, but most agree that his lyrics make it an enjoyable listen. He’s even got a song about his battle with irritable bowel syndrome. Dinosaur Jr. Green Mind and Where You Been (Rhino) – While......

Fri 4/21 - Dinosaur Jr @ Troubadour (SOLD OUT) – Here’s a show for the aging indie rocker. That first reunion show a year ago at Spaceland was a little disappointing (packed and a billion degrees inside). While Green Mind and Where You Been are still the best Dinosaur records, the first three with Lou Barlow have some great moments too. The show on Saturday night is sold out too. Sat 4/22 - Matthew......
