Just before 5 o'clock this morning, two gunmen, "described as white men wearing masks" held up the stalwart 24-hour eatery Norm's at 470 La Cienega Blvd. According to cbs2.com, the robbers "got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register" and "reportedly chased employees through the panicked restaurant where the workers were able to lock themselves in a back room." Furthermore, following the heist, "the suspects fled in a waiting white, four-door Ford......

Breakfast! Whether you're gobbling it down in the wee hours to fend off the inevitable hangover, gathered around the late-morning table with good friends or family, or sitting solo with a good book and going the leisurely route, weekend breakfast can be a beautiful thing. (And you know LAist loves breakfast...we spent a whole month talking about it!) This is the French Toast Special from Rae's Diner at Pico & Yorkshire in Santa Monica,......

Reader Apollo Sputnik was down in Vernon and happened upon this treasure. Thankfully, he shared with us so we could share with you: "I was happy to discover La Villa Basque in the middle of industrial Vernon. I have never seen a better kept mid-century diner. They're only open for lunch during the week -- but it's worth the effort... The place is full of a cast of characters -- I passed by a 70+......

Bloomingdale's diner is the perfect spot for ladies who lunch. 59th & Lex appears upon first glance to be only a glorified coffee bar for a quick break from the 40% off sale. This little diner is actually so much more than your typical department store lunch counter. The sandwiches and salads are delicious and the service is sheer perfection. These ladies would expect nothing less. Named after the corner on which the original Bloomingdales......

If you've been enjoying our Wake Up LA: Breakfast Series this month, you're sure to be excited about the latest restaurant opening up in Hollywood: The Waffle. This new comfort-food "hipster" diner, with a menu by chef Scooter Kanfer-Cartmill, is already receiving fairly positive reviews only a few days in. It's open 22 hours a day on weekends (convenient for the Cahuenga party-goer), serving up a hearty diner menu that is, yes, heavy on......

We couldn't do a proper tribute to Late Night Eats in Los Angeles without a visit to the original Late Night Eats establishment, the one that started it all, the restaurant that embodies the very essence of car-hopping, car-worshiping SoCal burger culture: Bob's Big Boy. The Big Boy Burger was born in Glendale in 1936, the brainchild of Bob Wian (I know, the alliteration is getting a bit much for me too); the Burbank branch......

I have an occasional habit of going to get coffee with a friend on weeknights at the 101 Cafe (6145 Franklin Ave, right across from The Hollywood Tower). It's just so darn comfortable. And of course, it's open till around 3am, so it's a perfect Late Night Eats spot. Attached to a mighty fancier than normal, even kind of hip, Best Western hotel, the 101 Cafe has a true retro feel, complete with a......
