A couple hundred people took to the front gates of Dodger Stadium yesterday, protesting Arizona's controversial immigration law SB 1070 and the Arizona Diamondbacks (they lost, by the way). LAist Sports Editor Jimmy Bramlett has the full story here, and above are some more photos showing the scene, which was vibrant and carried a sense of organized chaos as protestors walked back and forth on crosswalks in front of cars at red lights.

LAst Night's Action: It's Official
Angels 7, Mariners 4 - The champagne Bud Light is no longer on ice. After dropping two in a row to Seattle and delaying their inevitable AL West pennant, LAnaheim closed it out on Sunday. This is the earliest the Angels have ever clinched. They will join Cleveland (AL Central), Boston (at least the AL Wild Card) and one other team in the chase to represent the junior league in the World Series. Dodgers 7,...
LAst Night's Action: Angels Look Up, Dodgers Fall Fast
Angels 4, A's 3 - The NorCal-SoCal rivalry is heating up in the junior circuit. Oakland and LAnaheim split the four game series, but not without a some players getting beaned (or close to it). In the final game, the Angels got three of their RBIs from Garret Anderson, who is not one of the three Halos to get hit this year. Vladamir Guerrero almost became the fourth victim on Sunday on a pitch that...
Just Another Dodger Loss
The Dodgers made a better showing of things Friday night against the Diamondbacks. The game ended up being a good pitcher’s duel between Chad Billingsley and the D-Back’s Doug Davis. Bills ended up making one mistake, an eighth inning lead off homer to Chris Snyder which was the only offense mustered by either team. Bills tamed a D-Back’s locomotive that had won 10 of their last 12 games, five of which they scored seven...
112 degrees outside, you'd better get a run
Because LAist loves you and loves the Dodgers, we thought it would be nice to give you some road trip action. Hooray for you. Okay, really I just had to escape LA for a while for fear of vengance from the Victoria's Secret Pink Army and thought Phoenix would be safe. I can blend in with all of the other out-of-town Dodger fans and no one will suspect a thing. Before I go into...
Home Sweet Home Sort Of
As my friend put it, our long national nightmare is over: interleague play is done. Finito! And calling interleague play is by no means an exaggeration. The Dodgers went 5-10 against the AL.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Burnt Out
Suns 119, Lakers 110 - Everybody saw this one coming, but at least the Lakers made a game of it. Already trailing 3-1 in the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Lakers faced double-digit deficits for much of the night. However, they pulled within two in the third quarter and five in the fourth thanks to strong performances from Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom. Kobe had a typical 34 point game, but he needed...
LAst Night's Action: Ducks Unflappable
Ducks 3, Canucks 2, OT - Trailing 2-0 in the final period, Anaheim came storming back in Vancouver. All three of the team's goals came within 20 minutes of ice time, the last one just a couple minutes after the puck was dropped in overtime. The Ducks now lead the series 3-1 and can advance with a win at home on Thursday. Dodgers 2, Diamondbacks 1 - Brad Penny is still smoking hot, hurling six...
Let's Stay Positive
Being a natural born cynic, this is hard to say and even harder to do. But the Dodgers did played a 5 hour long game on Sunday and pulled off a win over the Padres, so I will try to hide my disappointment about getting killed 9 to 1 on Monday night by the Diamondbacks, who are now up on the Dodgers by half a game....
Hey Pig. Yeah You.
Among the big changes at Dodger Stadium during the off-season was the conversion of the right field pavilion into a $35 all-you-can-eat bonanza loving termed the Pigvilion. The acids in my GI tract started churning just at the thought of it. I vowed never to sit there.
Last Night's Action: Angels Rule, Dodger Snakebit
Angels 3, Royals 1 - The West's best faced the league's worst in the first of a four game series. Anaheim prevailed thanks to a solid 6 and 1/3 inning performance by John Lackey. In the hard-luck story of the day, Kansas City first baseman Ryan Shealy finally reached base with a 2 RBI double after going hitless in his last nine at-bats. He had been averaging .096 for the season. A couple plays later,...
LAst Night's Action: Sun Doesn't Set
Clippers 103, Suns 99 - The sun hasn't set on the Clipper's playoff hopes yet. Los Angeles surprised Phoenix, who played their regular starters despite a lock on the #2 seed in the West. The Clippers need to beat New Orleans (a/k/a Oklahoma City) on Wednesday and root for Portland to beat Golden State. That scenario would tie them with the Warriors at .500. The teams split their season series, but the Clippers would advance...
LAst Night's Action: Penny Is Money
Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 1 - Off to the best record in baseball, Los Angeles scored in five different innings to earn their ninth win. Brad Penny allowed one run in seven innings to record his third win of the young season. Nomar Garciaparra had a home run and double to earn his two RBIs. Luis Gonzalez was 0-4 in his return to Arizona.
Better Know a Dodger . . . Marlon Anderson
On the heels of taking two games out of three from the San Diego Padres this weekend, the Dodgers have run their record to 8-4, and trail the division leading Arizona Diamondbacks by only one-half game. First place will be up for grabs when the Dodgers travel to Phoenix for a two-game set on Monday. A small component of the Dodgers' on-field success thus far has been the play of veteran utility player Marlon Anderson. Although he's had a limited impact in 2007, Anderson still will garner unlimited attention as the subject of Part 3 of our 436-Part Series, "Better Know a Dodger."
School For The Dodgers, Angels Get Off The Floor
The Dodgers weren't exactly limping going into Angel Stadium; after
all, getting swept on the road isn't the most noteworthy stumble, and besides,
they'd swept the lowly Pirates and salvaged the last game of the
Seattle series just before that. Despite losing the division lead to
San Diego, it wasn't like they were hopelessly out of first; even the
division-trailing Diamondbacks were only four and a half games out,
and nobody had really made a move to dominate the division.
So when Brad Penny ascended the mound to dominate the Angels over
seven strong innings, it came as a
welcome reminder that the team could actually win games. His
resulting win — a

Dodger victory — brought Penny a 9-2 record, the best season opening
of his career, a prelude to his

bid.
Angels Down Snakes, Get On A Plane
When all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail, and
going into this weekend's series against the Diamondbacks, the Angels' offense looked like a whole row of
ten-pennies waiting to get pounded in. Recently, Mike Scioscia
href="http://6-4-2.blogspot.com/2006/06/petulantly-waiting-to-fire-mickey.html">confessed that while the team is awfully fond of on-base percentage
(OBP) as an important statistic to measure for the team's offense, it
really has a big crush on hitting with runners in scoring position,
and especially, hitting with runners in scoring position with two
outs.
Dodgers, Angels Falling Fast
Lost amidst the celebration of Kobe's hoop heroics and the Clippers getting a playoff series win, the Angels and Dodgers have been dropping games, both sporting a 12-14 record after getting beat Monday by the A's and Diamondbacks respectively.
Nomar's Home Now
Nomar Garciaparra made his Dodger debut this past weekend against the Diamondbacks of Arizona. He did well... not getting hurt for one thing, but also proceeding to show the bat we all knew he had. Going 2-4 with a double and nearly hitting one out. Well Nomar took it a step further last night hitting a pivotal grand slam against Houston Astros closer Brad Lidge to help give the Dodgers the 6-2 victory. The victory was made especially sweet in that they were able to overcome a ridiculous performance by Astros starter Andy Pettite.
Cruz Control
Cruz does add some pop, which the Dodgers could use. He's a gold glover defensively. And this isn't meant to be an earth-shattering signing. This is simply meant to be a slight tweaking to a roster that could use some help, ala Billy Beane's regular tweaks in Oakland. It's also hard to be critical of a trade where the Dodgers only give up a player-to-be-named later, and spend just $1.1 million of money that's not ours.
A Cut Below
It's disconcerting that the Dodgers were outclassed this week by both the Cardinals and Braves, arguably the NL's two best teams.
Green with Envy
"I'd lie if I said it didn't feel better to hit home runs and make plays against these guys," Green said.
What The Hell Is Going On Out There?
It is absolutely inconceivable that Eric Gagne could lose two straight games, and three games in the span of a week. And the Dodgers division lead has dwindled down to 4.5 games as a result.
City of Dodgers
But while the Dodgers sport the third-best record in baseball, ESPN.com's Darren Rovell came out with an article pondering if the Angels had passed the Dodgers in LA. "Big Nasty" Joe McDonnell said as much on 710 AM recently.
Kaz They're in First
About the only thing consistent about the Dodgers this season is their inconsistencies. Two weeks ago, the Dodgers had lost six straight, were in third place, and considered becoming sellers at the trade deadline.
