Tonight In Rock: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Fanfarlo, Nurses

Tonight NY-based alternative rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs (LAist Review) will be headlining the Pomona Fox Theater. English alternative rockers Arctic Monkeys are poised to take on the Hollywood Palladium with local pop rockers the Like. London's own indie pop act Fanfarlo will be gracing the Troubadour with Raleigh-bred lo-fi pop outfit Love Language. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Portland-based indie rockers Nurses, who will be opening for none other than Seattle's own pop quartet Throw Me The Statue. One of New Zealand's finest acts the Brunettes and local singer-songwriter Devon Williams are slated to perform as well.

Tonight In Rock: Propagandhi, Langhorne Slim, The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra, Devon Williams

Tonight Canadian punk band Propagandhi will be headlining the Echoplex. Early on in the day, Brooklyn-based folk rock troubadour Langhorne Slim (LAist Review, #2) is poised to perform at the Echo for this month's edition of Kidrockers. As always, you need a child in hand to gain admission. And, lastly, LA-based indie rock troubadour Devon Williams will be gracing the Smell in Downtown. But we strongly suggest heading over to the hole-and-corner Pehrspace to catch the multi-faceted drummer, percussionist, pianist and vibraphonist of indie rock band Aloha, Cale Parks. LAist favorites the Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2) are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Leonard Cohen, Gary Louris, The Happy Hollows, Anglos

Tonight Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be concluding a two-date stint at Club Nokia in Downtown. LAist favorites the Happy Hollows are poised to headline the Regent Theatre with a slew of like-minded Los Angelenos, including Devon Williams, Rainbow^Arabia and Blank Blue, to benefit local radio station KXLU. Local indie rockers Anglos will be ringing in their debut EP at El Cid with Go West Young Man. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet. Not only will recently-reunited Jayhawks' front men Mark Olson and Gary Louris be gracing the main room with Teddy Thompson, but Boston-based ex-Candy Butcher front man Mike Viola will be playing in the Little Room.

Tonight In Rock: Shiny Toy Guns, Alex & Sam, Fol Chen, Calvin Johnson

Tonight Grammy-nominated electro-pop act Shiny Toy Guns will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City Walk for KROQ's Super Bowl Party. Local folk duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review) are slated to play Home Restaurant in Silver Lake. This week's edition of Part Time Punks at the Echo will be centralized around the Cure. And, lastly, Olympia's own underground rock king Calvin Johnson is set to rock out at the Smell with local singer-songwriter Devon Williams in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to see Highland Park-based indie-pop outfit Fol Chen, who will be accompanied by their contemporaries Light FM and Radars to the Sky (LAist Review, #2, #3).

Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez

I've always been intrigued by other "best of" lists, but this year I decided to take it to a whole new level. I e-mailed a handful of bands that I've seen this past year in order to unearth what exactly captivated them in '07. As music listeners, it is our duty to take a keen interest in our favorite musician's influences. After all, they rocked our little world, might as well see what rocked their...
