Kings Sink Against Red Wings

Kings Sink Against Red Wings

The Kings made the biggest splash of trade deadline day getting Dustin Penner from the Edmonton Oilers for a minor leaguer and two draft picks. Yet if it were possible to sink in ice, the Kings did just that as they fell to the Detroit Red Wings 7-4 as the Wings fans serenaded their team on in the final period. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Quick Sands Wings

LAst Night's Action: Quick Sands Wings

LA Kings defeat Detroit Red Wings 5-0. If there was ever a time when the score doesn’t indicate what went on in this game, it’s this one. The Kings were utterly dominated by the Wings through two periods giving up 38 shots-on-goal, 26 in the second period alone, while getting only 17. Yet there they were leading 2-0 thanks to Jonathan Quick dominant performance in the net. more ›

Kings Pull Through for an Overtime Victory Over Red Wings

It wasn’t the Frenzy at Figueroa, but it works just as well. “It’s a huge win,” forward Justin Williams said after the game. Despite the Detroit Red Wings having played in Anaheim Friday night, nothing took the joy out of the Kings locker room in their 3-2 overtime win against the best of the west. “They’re arguably the best team in the league right now,” Williams continued. “We battled back from a couple of one-goal deficits. We got the job done.” more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regally End Losing Streak

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regally End Losing Streak

LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 113-80. The Lakers ended their four-game losing streak by having the largest margin of victory this season against the Kings. And really there was nothing pretty about the game. Lamar Odom was the only starter to play more than 30 minutes scoring 16 points. The Lakers shot 57% and outplayed the Kings from the outset. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Trick Hats in Colorado

LAst Night's Action: Kings Trick Hats in Colorado

LA Kings defeat Colorado Avalanche 6-4. Coming into the game the Kings had only scored one power-play goal. The Kings got two against the Avs by first-liners Anze Kopitar 11:15 in the first period and Dustin Brown 17:15 in the second period. Brad Richardson got his first career hat-trick with goals 4:58 in the second period, a short-handed goal 13:04 in the third and 17:05 in the third. Wayne Simmonds was given a five-minute major penalty and a ten-minute game misconduct 8:40 in the third period for butt-ending TJ Galiardi. Strange, strange game, but the Kings got the win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Shutout in Opener by Red Wings

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Shutout in Opener by Red Wings

Detroit Red Wings defeat Anaheim Ducks 4-0. To be honest the Ducks didn’t look horrible the entire game, but early scoring by the Wings took the Ducks out of it. Johan Franzen got things started 5:11 in the game with Mike Modano, freshly signed after a nice send-off by the Dallas Stars, following up just 24 seconds later to give Detroit the quick 2-0 lead. Their overall deficiencies were further exposed as Pavel Datsyuk (5:29) and Dan Cleary (16:55) added two goals in the second period. Two positive notes for the Ducks: their penalty-kill group did not allow a goal in six Detroit power-play opportunities for 9:09 minutes, and top draft pick Cam Fowler played well in his debut playing 20:48 with five blocked shots and a hit. The Ducks will have to quickly regroup as they have a game Saturday night in Nashville. Jonas Hiller made 39 saves for the Ducks while Jimmy Howard saved all 21 shots for the Red Wings. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Over the Bobcat's Hump

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Over the Bobcat's Hump

LA Lakers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 99-97. It took more than four years, but the Lakers finally beat the Bobcats again at home. It was another choppy game, but this time the Lakers didn’t cede the lead at the end of the game. Lamar Odom led the Lakers in scoring with 19 points while Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant after setting the scoring mark on Monday scored a measly five points thanks to tweaking his ankle after getting tied up with Odom who has a penchant for being involved in his teammates’ injuries. Stephen Jackson scored 30 for the Cats while Nazr Mohammed filled in nicely for an absent Gerald Wallace with 23 points. This win now gives coach Phil Jackson the most wins for a Lakers coach. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Stanford Pummells USC

LAst Night's Action: Stanford Pummells USC

Stanford Cardinal defeat USC Trojans 55-21. It wasn’t incredulous to think Stanford could beat USC at home. They did it two years ago as a 41-point underdog. But no one thought it would be this epic. On homecoming day, the Trojans gave up the most points in their 121-year history to Stanford. The Trojans turned the ball over twice in the first quarter resulting in two touchdowns for the Cardinal. Using their power running game fuelled by Toby Gerhart the Cardinal responded each time the Trojans cut the lead to seven... more ›

LAst Night's Action: There Will Be A Game Seven

LAst Night's Action: There Will Be A Game Seven

Houston Rockets defeat LA Lakers 95-80. You've got to be fucking kidding me. Let's take a look at the box score. The Lakers attempted 23 threes in this loss. In game five the Lakers attempted 13. While the Lakers were trailing by 15 in the second quarter it was very frustrating to see them settle for jump shots rather than take it to the hole. In the third quarter they responded well and cut the deficit to two, but then their defense fell apart. They made Luis Scola look like James Worthy while Pau Gasol looked like a big stiff. So let's review. No Tracy McGrady. No Yao Ming. No wins against the Lakers in the regular season. And now we're going to a game seven? more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Respond

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Respond

LA Lakers defeat Houston Rockets 118-78. The start of the game was very touch and go. The Rockets were setting good screens and moving the ball crisply. The was tied 18-18 at the 5:20 mark in the first quarter when the Lakers dropped the hammer. They took advantage of every Houston turnover making this game a complete laugher in the second quarter with the Lakers leading by 25 points at the half. The question would remain whether the Lakers had the killer instinct, and they answered it by going up by 40 points by the end of the third quarter. more ›

LAst Night's Action: History on Cinco de Doyer

LAst Night's Action: History on Cinco de Doyer

LA Dodgers defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1. Manny did the hat dance in left field. Folklorico dancers did their thing between innings. On this Cinco de Mayo, the Dodgers etched their names in the history books tying the 1911 Detroit Tigers for consecutive home wins to start the season at 12-0. Ole Droopy Jeff Weaver on his second tour with the Dodgers pitched a good game giving up only one run on five hits in five innings pitched. The Dodgers were gifted all three of their runs in the first inning thanks to two DBack errors. While DBacks starter Max Scherzer pitched a good game, yet again his offense gave him no run support allowing him to fall to 0-3 with a very respectable 3.38 ERA. The Dodgers now look to continue their home dominance with a two game series against the awful pitching of the Washington Nationals. more ›

LAst Night's Action: UCLA, USC Crush the Arizonas

LAst Night's Action: UCLA, USC Crush the Arizonas

USC Trojans defeat #15(Coach)/#16(AP) Arizona State Sun Devils 61-49. Defense wins games, and that was more than evident in this game. USC's Daniel Hackett held ASU standout James Harden to only four points scored on free throws, much lower than his 23.1 points per game average. Harden missed all eight field goal attempts. USC started slow scoring only 19 points in the first half, but they made up for it in the second half with 42 points. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Effort All for Naught

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Effort All for Naught

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Lakers 112-111. What a remarkable game! The game was close throughout, although the Spurs did manage to take an 11 point lead in the fourth quarter. The Lakers led by Kobe Bryant came storming back to eventually take a one point lead. Now for the "naught". After Kobe sinks a three pointer to get the 111-109 lead Roger Mason receives the inbound pass, fakes out Derek Fisher causing Fisher to foul Mason just as his off-balance shot goes through the net with 10 seconds on the clock. Mason makes his free throw, one point lead. Kobe takes the ball down the court and passes to Trevor Ariza at the top of the arc who drives to the paint, trips and gets called for the travel with 0.8 seconds left. Game over. Much kudos goes to Spero Dedes and Mychal Thompson on the radio call. They do a great job broadcasting games, and this game was no different. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Trojans Squeak By

LAst Night's Action: Trojans Squeak By

USC Trojans defeat USF Dons 74-69. Things are a little bleak for the Trojans. The Dons excellent three-point shooting kept them in the game. Actually it was what helped them build a 12 point lead in the first half. But the Trojans went on an 18-5 spurt to take a one point lead at the half. In the second half the Trojans kept the Dons in the game until a 21-15 run by the Trojans let the escape Galen Center with a victory. Good news: the Trojans are undefeated at home. Bad news: they next face the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman. more ›

Pssst.... The Stanley Cup Starts Tonight in The OC

Hey LA, Welcome to the Stanley Cup Finals! The last time hockey was seen nationally on a channel that you're familiar with was May 19th on NBC. Of course, as everyone knows, that game between the Ottawa Senators and the Buffalo Sabres went into overtime. And somehow, during the overtime, the pucks of hockey were magically transformed into the ponies of the Preakness. In case you’re still wondering who won that series, the Senators... more ›
