Witnesses Sought in Broad Daylight Weekend Shooting on S. La Brea

LAPD Detectives are hoping witnesses will come forward with information about a shooting that took place in broad daylight at 2:35 Sunday afternoon near the busy intersection of South La Brea Avenue and Olympic Boulevard, according to a press release. The incident took place as follows:

18-year-old Juan Segura was walking along the sidewalk in the 1000 block of South La Brea Avenue when a car pulled alongside of him and his friend and at least one of the car’s occupants opened fire on them. Segura was hit by the gunfire and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel and pronounced dead a short time later. Segura’s friend was not injured.
Because of the heavy traffic typical of the area, detectives believe there may have been witnesses to the crime, and are encouraging them to come forward to help piece together the case. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Wilshire Area Homicide Detectives, Detectives Frank Carrillo or Javier Hernandez at (213) 473-0446, or send tips via text or online.
