Inmate Dies Two Days After Deputy Punched Him in Head
An inmate at the jail downtown died suddenly in his cell on Thursday, after a deputy had punched him in the head, according to the Los Angeles Times. Whether or not that blow to the head caused the inmate's death is something that an autopsy will determine, but the incident hasn't done anything to dispel the cloud haning over the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A rookie and "honor recruit" from the L.A. County Sheriff's department resigned shortly after he said that he was forced to beat a mentally ill inmate, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The 23-year-old rookie Joshua Sather had been working a shift at the jail downtown last year, when he called his uncle a veteran in the department crying. He complained that he had been forced to beat up a mentally disabled inmate. He quit almost immediately after and now works in oil fields in Colorado.
San Bernardino Sheriff's Detective Killed While Bicycling
Duane Parkinson, a 42-year-old husband and father of three, was killed on Wednesday, August, 10, after being struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle in Irvine. Parkinson was also a San Bernardino County deputy, reports Daily Pilot. He was off-duty at the time of the incident.
