Officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health have shut down the Adult Industry Medical (AIM) clinic in Sherman Oaks, according to LA Now. The clinic had been operating without the appropriate license, and were denied their license on Tuesday. A cease-and-desist order was delivered to the clinic this morning. more ›

Rabid bat counts have doubled this year and The Department of Public Health is urgently reminding residents to be sure that pet vaccinations are up to date to guard against rabies. County officials are not sure why there has been an increase in rabid bats, but have asked Angelenos to report all questionable bat sightings to local animal control. The most urgent warning: don't touch the bats! Several people attempting to rescue bats have been bitten and infected. The owner of a Pomona bakery has filed a claim with Los Angeles County after alleging one of their health inspectors groped her while visiting her shop as part of his job duties, according to cbs2. The bakery proprietor says that Magdy Tawadros "used his position to intimidate her and tried repeatedly to hug her in a back room of her business last month." The encounter was captured on the bakery's surveillance camera, and Tawadros has since been suspended without pay. The woman's claim with the county is for up to $10 million in damages. more ›

Limited supplies of the in-demand H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine are forcing the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to be very strict in deciding who can get the preventative treatment at area clinics, reports the Daily Breeze. Thousands of people hoping to ward off the infectious virus have swarmed clinics and special vaccination events, however now individuals "not deemed at risk for swine flu are being asked to stay away from county-run vaccination clinics until more supplies become available." more ›

If you don't, you could be cooking with what the Los Angeles County Health Officer calls "a recipe for disaster," and that has zero to do with your culinary prowess. A press release issued by the county's Department of Public Health is warning consumers about dairy products, particularly "Latin American-style soft cheese and sour cream, purchased from unlicensed manufacturers or vendors," because they may be full of contaminants. more ›

If your weekend plans include dropping a line into the lakes at Earvin Magic Johnson County Park, be ready to be in it just for the sport--don't take those fish to the dinner table! The Los Angeles County Health Officer is issuing a Health Advisory cautioning residents to not eat fish caught there at the park. They report that "preliminary data from water and fish samples taken from the lakes suggest that fish may contain contaminants above the levels considered safe for human consumption. These samples were taken as part of a joint investigation, headed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, and with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and Exxon Mobil." Folks are being urged to refrain from eating their catch until further testing is completed. The LA County Department of Public Health has issued a warning about frozen cookie dough that was sold in several area schools as part of a fundraiser.
