The Tax Man: Former LA County Social Worker Sentenced for Tax Fraud
After filing fraudulent tax returns for 197 people and attempting to collect the refund money for himself, a former social worker for the LA Country Department of Social Services was sentenced today to 46 months in prison. According to a statement issued today by the U.S. Department of Justice, Trang Van Dinh, 63, filled out and sent the returns to the Internal Revenue Service using names and social security numbers to which he had access from his work with the DSS.

27 people affiliated with the Lennox 13 gang have been arrested in an operation employing nearly 500 law enforcement personnel. A raid was conducted this morning as the culmination of an 18-month probe by a joint federal-state team, according to the Department of Justice.

The world's biggest concert promoter and ticketing service are now okayed to be one giant-ass company. The deal was approved today, despite opposition over such a game-changing move, by the Department of Justice. One of opponents was Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), which owns L.A. Live. The rumor is that Live Nation agreed to sell some of its venues to AEG in exchange for them dropping their arguments of the merger.
Feds Help Local Domestic Violence Shelters with Grants
While Schwarzenegger slashed 100% of funding for domestic violence in California, the Department of Justice today announced that Recovery Act money is heading to a handful of grants to domestic violence shelters in California, including two in Southern California. House of Ruth, Inc in Los Angeles County received $500,000 and $520,755 was awarded to the Southern California Alcohol and Drug Program headquartered in Downey.
