After LAist learned that Los Angeles County was suspending marriage licenses for gay couples, we asked Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan for some more detail on why and what next, especially in light of the millions of uncounted ballots. Here's what he said:

Election officials are bracing for tremendous turnout at polling places throughout Los Angeles County Tuesday and reassuring voters that enough ballots will be on hand to serve the millions expected to show up for the hotly contested race.
Dean C. Logan is the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for LA County and has released this basic, but helpful op-ed. Although he has a controversial past in his previous post in Washington state, LAist has found Logan to be one of the most accessible politically appointed officials in the region. He and his office are easy to work with, return calls (he makes most of them) and is always looking to make things better, especially since last year's double bubble controversy that sparked when he was the interim county clerk. And now on to his writing:
Via a comment left on California Faultline, NBC Blogger David Markland shares the tip which is basically calling a number, asking for an express ballot and they'll tell you to show up at a certain time to pick up the ballot. When you arrive, avoid the extremely long lines and walk straight into the Norwalk building to get your ballot. LA County Registrar-Recorder Dean Logan confirms this program in an e-mail to LAist, but has a warning: "due to the volume, those voters calling in for Ballot Express are being advised that we need a minimum of three hours time before they come in to pick up their ballot."
We've been receiving quite a few voting related questions, so keep on leaving comments asking more. Earlier, we tackled video and photography. Now we clarify some questions regarding Early Voting and Vote-by Mail.
An estimated 4.2 million of the nearly 10 million residents in Los Angeles County are now registered to vote. On Monday alone, which was the last day to register to vote, almost 20,000 people took part. "The county has already issued 803,122 vote by mail ballots and more than 3,500 voters have visited the Registrar's office in Norwalk to cast early ballots for the presidential election," the Daily News finds.
Now that California has ruled that gay and lesbian couples should have the freedom to marry, Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is making sure that the LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office does not allow employees to opt out of officiating gay marriages if they feel uncomfortable.
The Daily Breeze has the low-down on the latest from Super Tuesday's ugly non-partisan voting mishap where nearly 50,000 votes went uncounted because of a tricky "double bubble" on ballots. Los Angeles County registrar Dean Logan has announced more than 50% of uncounted votes will be counted. Here are the technical details:
It's better news than yesterday's estimate of 100,000 votes not to be counted. In a LA Times article today, acting County Registrar, Dean Logan, was very honest and straightforward about the situation that took place last Tuesday: "We want voters to know that we hear loud and clear that this ballot layout is confusing and we need to identify a less confusing method for crossover voting for future primaries," he told the Times.
Both the Democrat and American Independent parties held open primaries on Super Tuesday. Voters who declined to state an affiliation were handed a "nonpartisan" ballot and were allowed to select a presidential candidate in either of the open primaries.
