Box Office Review: Toys Dominate Grown Ups!
Pixar's Toy Story 3 enjoyed a very strong second weekend and easily claimed the weekend box office crown with a hefty haul of $59M ($226.5M). The terrible Grown Ups was a distant second with $41M, but that was still twice as much cash as the disappointing Knight and Day ($20.5). The Kung Fu Kid continues to do well ($15.4M | $135.6M) while The A-Team will struggle to hit the magical $100M barrier ($6M | $62.8M).
Weekend Movie Guide: Grown-Ups?
So let me get this straight: take Adam Sandler (not funny), Kevin James (not funny), David Spade (once funny), Chris Rock (once funny) and Rob Schneider (once sort of funny) and you get a summer comedy blockbuster? I would almost see Sex and the City 2: Venality Reigns before seeing Grown Ups. What I will see, though, is Knight and Day. Cruise and Diaz were solid together in Vanilla Sky, and they look finely matched in this over-the-top actioner. Still think that we need troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? Watch Restrepo and ponder the reality that Americans are dying for virtually nothing every day overseas.
LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
The Hollywood Improv isn't going to have trouble pulling in spectators and celebrities alike, as David Spade and Jim Breuer all drop in for sets throughout the week. Over at UCB, two epic shows (Prison Freaks and The S.W.A.) are taking place, ensuring grumbling diners at Birds and happy fans waiting in line.
Beck @ The Echoplex, 11/25/07
Beck, looking oddly like David Spade, played a not-so-secret show last night at the Echoplex. (Or should I say Beck-o-plex?) The “only North American date of the tour” was to give his new band a chance to get their live feet wet before heading out for some bigger shows in South America. A lucky crowd of about 700 people crammed into the club and were treated to a set comprised of mostly greatest hits...

Jimmy Kimmel to Broadcast from Big Blue Bus, Picking Up Guests as Show Rolls On
One of the nice things about having so many tv channels is there is so much selection. There once was a time when there was only one late-night talk show option: Johnny. Then there was Letterman and Leno. Now there's also Craig Ferguson, Conan of course, and Jimmy Kimmel. There's so much selection that there's even an audience for Carson Daly's terrible mess of a show. In order to keep up with the O'Brien's,...

Winners of the Week
Leona Lewis, a contestant on a Simon Cowell + Sharon Osbourne judged American Idol type program, who turns Cowell on so much he made out with Sharon and then dissed Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, and Carrie Underwood: Across this show, across Idol, across all the other shows. Let's be honest: all the girl singers haven't been very good, until now! You are absolutely the best contestant I have ever had across any of these shows....
When There's Nothing To See At The Movies
LAist is feeling a little bit depressed at the current selection of new films playing at the local cineplex. We're just feeling a little bit taken advantage of, and you're about to read why.
