Download This: Free Coachella 2010 Updated iPhone App

Heading to Coachella this weekend? Have an iPhone? Make sure you get the updated 2010 Coachella iPhone app, designed by Angeleno Dave Bullock, downloaded before you go. The app, updated since its launch last year, includes new features like a Forum Browser (message board), parking spot map marking function, simplified friend finder function, offline interactive map cacheing, and more. Griffith Park Fire near Observatory Appears to be Contained

Griffith Park Fire near Observatory Appears to be Contained

Around 4pm today a one-acre fire broke out within sight of the Griffith Park Observatory. ABC has been running indepth coverage, although there is very little news online and no photos available at this time. Hikers have been evacuated. If anyone knows anyone who may be hiking in the park, they are being asked to contact them on cell phones. Visitors to the Observatory were evacuated from the building and were being kept in the parking lot at the time that ABC switched back to its normal programming around 5:15 pm. It appears the observatory area has been evacuated now at 6 pm and the fire is almost contained. Two to five acres between the Observatory and the Hollywood sign have burned. I can smell the smoke as I type this post. more ›

Students march, again

AM news: immigration and downtown

Mayor V: A Q&A with Mayor Villaraigosa on immigration. He's definitely politic when speaking with the LA Times: My role, you know, my focus, is on the city that I was elected to serve, but I will continue to advocate for a sensible, bipartisan immigration reform. more ›

AM news: March, the workplace, another mad dad

AM news: March, the workplace, another mad dad

Immigration: Nationwide, rallies for immigrants' rights continue to swell — there were 500,000 in Washington DC yesterday. But here in LA, we might have a bit of rally burnout, or maybe the threat of rain kept many at home; estimates for our downtown march are 2,000-5,000. Dave Bullock was there and tells his story on blogging.la (he also took great photos, including the one above). more ›

I for Immigration

I for Immigration

Yesterday, 500,000 people flooded downtown LA for the rally for immigrants' rights. That figure, a half million, comes from police, who typically provide conservative crowd estimates; others suggest there were even more. Speakers included DJ Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo, who helped spread the word over the airwaves, Archibishop Mahoney and Mayor Villaraigosa, who said: more ›
