A fire ripped through a historic Hollywood recording studio overnight, and investigators are looking into the cause of the damaging blaze. The fire at 1041 Productions located at 1041 N. Orange Drive was first reported around 7 p.m. Monday night, and took firefighters 20 minutes to extinguish.

Water Main Break in Fairfax Village Causes Flooding, Damage
An 8-inch pipe ruptured overnight in the vicinity of Fairfax High School, according to cbs2. The line break "caused street flooding and reduced water service to about 30 nearby homes." As a result of the flooding, the 400 block of North Vista Street sustained damage. The cause of the break is not immediately known, and early LADWP guesses include factors such as "age, corrosion, traffic patterns in that area or something else." A recent scientific study attributes LA's increase in water main breaks to our usage restriction pattern.
Tsunami Activity in SoCal Reported; 2-3-ft Surges, Minor Damage
As expected, the North American West Coast is seeing some tsunami activity following this morning's deadly 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Chile. At around midday those in beach communities in Southern California began to see a change in the Pacific as a series of surges hit the shoreline. The activity is hard to uniformly predict, however we're largely looking to experience 2-4 foot surges for a period of about two hours.

Water Main Break in Silver Lake Causes Flooding, Lost Service
An overnight water main break in Silver Lake is still causing problems this morning as crews work to restore service to affected customers in the area, according to LA Now. The break in the 12-inch main happened at around 2:15 a.m. near El Cid, a restaurant located at 4212 W. Sunset Blvd. between Bates and Myra Avenues [map].

Northridge: 1, 476There have been multiple reports of damage to buildings and due to fallen trees all over the city. At about 7 last night a tree fell onto the Pilgrim Community Church in South Los Angeles and as a result the "building has been red-tagged," reports abc7, noting that a tree fell onto a parked car at Burbank Boulevard and Topanga Canyon as well, and another in Long Beach. "In Pacoima, a camper broke the fall of a tree, and a Jack in the Box sign flew off at Sherman Way and Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood."
Station Fire Containment at 98% and Photos of the Aftermath
Although the Station Fire is still not fully contained--it's currently at 98 percent with 100 expected Saturday after burning through some 250 square miles--the process of rehabilitation has begun in parts of the Angeles National Forest where fire and come and gone.
Station Fire Status: 87% Contained, What Trails/Campgrounds Were Spared
Fire crews have contained the Station Fire to 87%, up 6 points since Friday evening and are optimistic the fire will be knocked down soon. However, officials have extended the expected containment date from tomorrow to Saturday. Acreage burned still stands at 160,557, or over 250 square miles.
Station Fire Moving Slowly on Eastern Side, County Feels the Burn
The Station Fire has slowed significantly, but that doesn't mean its impact is any less significant as it continues to burn through ravines full of dry brush and vegetation on its eastern front. As of yesterday, the total acreage the blaze has consumed reached 157,220 according to the LA Times, and is burning "a safe distance from populated areas."
Coldwater Canyon Remains Closed after Water Main Floods Area
The rupture of a nearly 100-year-old, 62-inch city water trunkline Saturday night left the area around Coldwater Canyon and Ventura Boulevard paralyzed, flooding the streets, damaging some cars, homes and businesses with water, sometimes up to three to four feet. This morning, a handful of restoration vans sat outside businesses and street closures remain in effect.

Fallen Bricks on Downtown Sidewalk
All still minor damage being reported throughout the Southern California region after this morning's earthquake, but here's a photo of some cement bricks fallen on a sidewalk in downtown Los Angeles in the 300 block of South Broadway. It appears they may have been swept up into a pile.
