The large conflagration burning in the Leona and Antelope valley areas continues to grow as sunset and predicted forceful nighttime winds near. 10,000 acres had burned this afternoon and around 800 firefighters are on scene, L.A. Crown Fire Threatens Power Transmission Line to L.A.

The LADWP is urging residents to reduce energy if possible because the 8,000-acre Crown Fire is burning in an area of one of the utility's power transmission lines. Although the line has not been damaged, it does pass through the Leona Valley where the blaze is located. Crown Fire Continues to Burn in Northern L.A. County

       

Of the three fires ignited in northern Los Angeles County on Thursday afternoon, one remains a threat as it continues to grow. The Crown Fire has scorched some 8,000 acres between Acton and the Palmdale/Lancaster area. The fire was first reported at 2:22 p.m. and may have started in a vacant lot where "workers were apparently using a hammer to extract nails from tire rims," according to the LA Times. more ›

Brush Fires Break Out in Agua Dulce, Lancaster

At least two brush fires are burning in northern Los Angeles County this afternoon. In Agua Dulce, near Acton, a blaze that broke out around 2 p.m. has burned through some 25 to 30 acres, according to KCAL-TV. At first it burned through grassy fields, but recently went into thicker brush, prompting 15- to 20-foot flame lengths. Two abandoned structures have burned, but no homes are currently threatened, reported the news broadcast. 200 firefighters are on scene. There is another fire burning near Lancaster in Fairmont. It has burned about 30 acres, according to the LA Times. more ›
