Tonight In Rock: Jon Brion, Julian Casablancas, The Raveonettes, SIGNALS

Tonight, as always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. The Strokes' vocalist and chief songwriter Julian Casablancas (LAist Interview) will be continuing his month-long residency at the Palace Theatre in Downtown. And, lastly, SIGNALS, the phoenix to rise from the ashes of the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2), will be gracing the Smell in Downtown as well with British fuzz-infused punk outfit LOVVERS. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch Danish rock duo the Raveonettes. LAist favorites San Diegan garage rockers Crocodiles (LAist Interview) are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Franz Ferdinand, Matt & Kim, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, Crocodiles

Tonight Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand will be headlining the Hollywood Palladium. Brooklyn-based indie pop duo Matt & Kim will be performing to a sold-out crowd at the El Rey Theatre with none other than Philadelphia's own rapper/singer Amanda Blank. And, lastly, Omaha-bred Americana act Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band will be taking on the Echoplex with Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Kurt Vile and Swedish psych rockers Dungen. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch San Diegan garage rockers Crocodiles. London-based trios Graffiti Island and Pens are slated to kick things off.

Crocodiles Are Coming! Lead Singer Brandon Welchez Talks About Their Debut Album: Summer of Hate

Holy Jesus and the Mary Chain, Batman! Crocodiles are coming to the Troubadour tonight supporting their two month old, brand spanking new, debut disk, Summer of Hate(Fat Possum). Toting loud fuzzed out guitars, electric drums, and sneering lyrics that knock you breath back, Crocodiles have created a pulsing spaced out noise that will vibrate through your skull for days...in a good way. Brandon Welchez was kind enough to speak with us yesterday by phone. Here is some of what was said.

Tonight In Rock: Eagles of Death Metal, Matt & Kim, The Soft Pack, Castledoor

Tonight Palm Desert-bred rockers Eagles of Death Metal will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box. Brooklyn-based punk/dance duo Matt & Kim are slated to perform at the Troubadour with experimental rockers the Mae Shi (LAist Interview, Review, #2) in tow. LAist favorites the Soft Pack (formerly known as the Muslims) are slated to rock with San Diegan garage rock outfit Crocodiles at the Echo early on in the night. English electro-pop sensation Little Boots will be gracing the stage at Spaceland. And, lastly, local indie rockers Castledoor (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6) are poised to play Bordello. But we strongly suggest stopping by the Silver Lake Lounge to see electro-pop songstress Glasser.

Tonight In Rock: Papa Roach, Droog, The Henry Clay People, Crocodiles

Tonight Guitar Center will be putting on its annual Drum Off at the Henry Fonda Theatre with Papa Roach performing. LA's own buzz band the Afternoons (LAist Review, #2) are slated to rock Spaceland yet another night with the Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2), the Henry Clay People (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) and Lemon Sun. And, lastly, local techno troupe Droog are poised to host a Berlin-inspired night at the Avalon. But we strongly suggest catching San Diego's Crocodiles, who are best known as the phoenix that rose from ashes of TPTBUTET and the Prayers at the Smell—Yes, that is in fact Kristen Gundred of Grand Ole Party's hubby.

Now in its tenth year, the Lobster Festival at the Port of Los Angeles offers a mouthwatering array of not only food but local LA bands as well—most notably the Henry Clay People, Weather Underground and Olive Future. The music definitely overshadows the food this time around. And the Smell, in all of its drab glory, will be hosting LA-based experimental artist BARR and San Diego's Crocodiles, who are best known as the phoenix that rose from ashes of TPTBUTET and the Prayers. (Yes, that is in fact Kristen Gundred of Grand Ole Party's hubby.) However, the Hollywood Bowl is hosting what could easily be the best lineup to come through Los Angeles this entire year. While Brooklyn-based MGMT may be old news in Williamsburg, the buzz continues to shroud them here. The formidable and youthful band of bohemians are slated to open the extravaganza with epoch-making psychedelic pop, followed by Austin-based indie rock mainstays Spoon. And lastly, but certainly not least as far as we're concerned, hometown hero Beck will be wowing the audience, sampling tracks from his rather expansive catalog. The mere possibility of hearing anything off of 1996's Odelay excites us. But for your sake and our mental well-being, please, watch out for those bellicose "security" guards!
