The remains of missing 17-year-old Anyssia Katherine Escamilla were found yesterday at a Corona landfill, according to LA Now. Escamilla was reported missing in May, but soon after her boyfriend, 18-year-old Jesus Avitia Jr., claimed he had killed her and put her body in the trash. Since his admission, "Avitia has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and is being held on $2-million bail." The remains were found after a 70-day search of area landfills. The brush fire burning near Corona is said to have been started by a mower-powered tractor, according to the local paper Press Enterprise. Cal Fire Capt. Phil Rawlings explained that while cutting weeds the mower hit a rock throwing a spark that started the fire. Burning up to 900 acres as of this morning, the McKinley Fire got dangerously close to homes but nothing was damaged. Corona and Yorba Linda Fires Continue to Burn; 91 Freeway Shutdown

Two wildfires continue to burn, one in Corona near the 91 Riverside Freeway and Green River and one in Yorba Linda in the Gypsum Canyon area. It is believed that the fire jumped from its start point near Corona and ignited the brush in Yorba Linda, and may in fact have merged into one flank of fire. The fire has consumed over 800 acres, and officials are saying they believe 12 homes have been burned, although some are estimating the total between the two fires to be 16. "Two Corona firefighters were slightly injured when flames engulfed their engine," reports KFWB. Area residents remain under evacuation orders as winds continue to drive the flames through the neighborhood. The 91 Freeway is closed in both directions in the Corona area and there are reports of people stuck on the freeway in total gridlock. more ›

Firefighters in Orange County are currently fighting two reported brush fires. A fire "in Corona near Green River Road and the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway" was reported in the 9 o'clock hour this morning, and now reports of a fire in Yorba Linda in an as-of-yet unspecified area are both threatening homes as well as necessitating freeway closures and evacuations. CBS2.com reports that "the 91 Freeway was closed between Green River Road and the Corona (71) Expressway at 9:45 a.m. Traffic is also being stopped on the Riverside (91) Freeway between Orange and Riverside counties." Immediate evacuations of the area have been ordered. The Yorba Linda fire is prompting evacuations of the area to the East of Gypsum Canyon, which, according to a live report on KABC-7 is the area on Page 741 of the current Thomas Guide map book. more ›

Does it ever end? A new fire, named the Sierra Fire, has broken out in the mountains abut Yorba Linda, an Orange County city northeast of Anaheim and Fullerton.
