LAst Night's Action: Clippers Blazed, Spiezio Blitzed

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Blazed, Spiezio Blitzed

Blazers 82, Clippers 80 - Portland blew a 14 point lead in Staples Center one night after blowing a 15 point lead on the very same court. This time they were playing the Clippers, so things worked out OK. Los Angeles managed a pathetic 29 points in the first half, but did make a noble effort in the second. Corey Maggette was hot with 32 points, but missed a big shot with eight ticks left. more ›

LAst Night's Action: LakerMania is Brewing!

Lakers 117, Timberwolves 92 - The Lakers sent a major sign to the rest of the NBA on their long road trip, finishing with a 7-2 record, acquiring Pau Gasol, and seeing Kobe pour in 29 points last night even with a dislocated finger. Against Minnesota, the Lakers got another solid performance from Gasol, who shot 9-of-11 for 19 points and blocked three shots. The team is off through the All Star game (Sunday) and will return to Staples Center next week. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Where's Everybody Going?

Clippers 95, Hawks 88 - The Clips got an unexpected performance from rookie Al Thornton, who exploded for a career high 33 points the day after a major stomach virus. Los Angeles fielded their 20th different starting lineup of the year, and are currently missing Chris Kaman and Corey Maggette. Next up, a seven game road trip. That's not so bad -- the Lakers have a 9 game trip lined up. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clips Clawed by Bobcats

LAst Night's Action: Clips Clawed by Bobcats

Bobcats 107, Clippers 100 - As if they haven't had enough injuries this year, Los Angeles took on Charlotte without big man Chris Kaman (bruised shin) and leading scorer Corey Maggette (flu-like symptoms). Of course, the biggest loss for the Clippers might just be their biggest fan. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Rockets Blast Clippers

LAst Night's Action: Rockets Blast Clippers

Rockets 88, Clippers 71 - Just as Corey Maggette and Brevin Knight returned from injuries, Sam Cassell went down with one. He's doubtful for Friday. The battered Clippers hung tough with Houston until the 4th quarter when Tracy McGrady helped Houston blow it wide open. Maggette had 21 points in his return, and Chris Kaman led the team with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Los Angeles has now dropped seven of nine after winning the... more ›

A Whole New Ball Game

A Whole New Ball Game

This isn’t normally how the script goes. For the first 30 minutes, all signs were pointing to the Lakers reasserting themselves as the team in LA, clinching their playoff spot, with the Clippers laying an egg in their most important game of the season. Kobe was scoring from all over the court, getting to the line, and creating easy shots for his teammates. When Kobe drained a three-pointer from the wing for his 38th point... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Sweet LA-On-LA Action

LAst Night's Action: Sweet LA-On-LA Action

Clippers 118, Lakers 110 - Go big or go home, but what if both teams are already home? Then both teams go big. Kobe had another 50 point night and nine rebounds, but was upstaged by Corey Maggette's career high 39 to go with eight rebounds and nine assists and Elton Brand's 32 with 12 rebounds and seven assists. The Lakers were up by 10 in the fourth quarter, but were outscored 26-8 down the... more ›

One Side of the Coin: Clippers Coming Up Lakers' Tail

One Side of the Coin: Clippers Coming Up Lakers' Tail

While panic is setting in for the purple and gold, confidence is rising for the red, white, and blue. In a playoff atmosphere at Staples, the Clippers withstood a huge second-half surge by the Lakers and hung on for a 90-82 win. With the Clippers notching their first victory over the Lakers this season, and seventh out of eight overall, the two LA teams finally seem to reverting back to preseason expectations as the regular... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly): Together Everyone Achieves More

The CW (Clipper Weekly): Together Everyone Achieves More

Current Record: 36-37, 3rd Pacific, 8th West Last Week: It’s amazing how sometimes a little adversity can galvanize a group of people and inspire them to achieve more than was thought possible. OK, so in the Clippers’ case, they’re basically achieving what was expected at the beginning of the season. Nevertheless, after utterly disappointing play for most of the season, the Clips seem to have finally found their groove just in the nick of time,... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Arron Aff. Lacked

LAst Night's Action: Arron Aff. Lacked

Gators 76, Bruins 66 - Florida spoiled UCLA's championship hopes a round earlier than last year. After a low scoring first half, the Gators opened up fast in the second. The Bruins couldn't maintain the pace and were barely averaging a point per minute well into the second. All American Arron Afflalo was scoreless in the first half and finished with 17. Afflalo fouled out, as did Lorenzo Mata and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.... more ›

LAst Night's Action: UCLA All The Way?

Bruins 68, Jayhawks 55 - Arron Afflalo led the way with 24 points to help UCLA avenge their #2 seeding by beating #1 seed Kansas. The team shot an impressive 53% from the field and was equally impressive on defense. Both teams came in known for protecting the hoop and showed it with a combined 32 steals and 46 turnovers. UCLA is back in the final four for a second straight year and an NCAA... more ›

LAst Night's Action: You Gotta' Have Hart

LAst Night's Action: You Gotta' Have Hart

Clippers 104, Bucks 103 - The roller coaster continues for Los Angeles. They watched a 22 point third quarter lead crumble away in the fourth. With less than a minute to play, Milwaukee held a three point edge. Then the Clippers got a basket from Corey Maggette with 45 seconds and another by Jason Hart with only three ticks left. The win pushed LA back into sole possession of the eighth seed in the Western... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Chicago Goes Down

LAst Night's Action: Chicago Goes Down

Clipper 103, Bulls 89 - The struggling Clippers defeated a strong Chicago squad despite missing Sam Cassell due to injury. Cuttino Mobley led the way with 25, followed by Corey Maggette with 22. Elton Brand had 21 and 12 rebounds. Los Angeles is essentially even with Golden State for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Three teams (Dallas, Pheonix, and San Antonio) are already in. Dodgers - LAist discovers that beer... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly), 14th Edition

Current Record: 29-30, 3rd Pacific, T-7th West Last Week: If LAist didn’t know any better, we would have assumed the latest rash of injuries to hit sports stars across LA was just another insidious terrorist plot hatched up on 24, given the number of attacks our fair city has received over the years on the show. We saw Becks go down before even getting to LA. We saw Lamar Odom getting injured again and joining... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly), 12th Edition

The CW (Clipper Weekly), 12th Edition

Current Record: 25-26, 3rd Pacific, 8th West Last Week: Just when you thought it was safe to support the Clippers again, they go and turn in a series of unwatchable performances to raise up all of the questions that were seemingly answered during the team’s hot streak over the previous three weeks. Not sure if the team just doesn’t sleep well in hotel rooms, but the Clips continued their year-long habit of sleepwalking on... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Looking Elsewhere

Raptors 96, Lakers 92 - Chris Bosh won the battle of possible MVP candidates with 29 points to Kobe's 25. The four point difference equaled the margin in the game. The Lakers have lost two in a row and are 3-4 on their road trip with a visit to the Cavs and another MVP candidate -- LeBron James -- on Sunday. Clippers 90, 76ers 89 - The Clippers got their first win in Philadelphia in... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Barn. Burnt.

LAst Night's Action: Barn. Burnt.

Bruins 70, Trojans 65 - For the second time this season, LAist correctly predicted a barn burner. UCLA didn't have a lead until the final six minutes, when USC's foul trouble unraveled an impressive game from the matchup's traditional underdog. The Bruins went 23-31 at the line, compared to a mere 3-5 for the Trojans. USC kept it close until the final seven seconds, hitting a string of deep shots to pull within three. A... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly), 10th Edition

The CW (Clipper Weekly), 10th Edition

Current Record: 22-22, 3rd Pacific, T-8th West Last Week: It was a good week, but not quite a great week. The one game that the Clips really needed, they struggled offensively against Minnesota, taking a double-digit loss on the chin against their primary competition for the last playoff berth in the West. However, the Clips did manage to get to .500 with two routs against undermanned Milwaukee and a crummy Seattle squad. The highlight of... more ›

The CW (Clipper Weekly), New Year's Edition

Clipper Weekly has returned from its nearly month-long hiatus after taking its own road trip – fortunately, the road was much more hospitable to the CW than it has been to the Clippers. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kobe Not Enough

LAst Night's Action: Kobe Not Enough

Bobcats 133, Lakers 124, 3OT - Kobe Bryant proved that there's no "i" in team, and there was no victory in Charlotte. Despite pouring in 58 points (third highest total in his career), Kobe blew the game in the final 1:14 of triple overtime. First, he fouled Derek Anderson on a three point attempt, allowing Anderson to hit all three free-throws and put the Bobcats up by five. On the ensuing drive, he missed a jumper. The next possession, he was whistled for charging and fouled out of the game. Kobe wasn't happy with the foul calls after the game, but maybe he was just tired and cranky after playing so much extra time. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ford Retires to the 19th Hole

LAst Night's Action: Ford Retires to the 19th Hole

Jazz 102, Clippers 92 - Something about Utah just doesn't sit well with the Clippers. They fell to 1-30 in games at EnergySolutions Arena (yes, it's really called that), and have lost 7 of their last 8 overall. Mike Dunleavy was T-eed up, but if he's fined we're sure he can afford it. The Clippers were on the road the last three games, and will close out the calendar year with three at home against... more ›

So LAist has tried to refrain from piling on the already crowded media bandwagon (such as here, here, and here) for the Clippers to make a certain move for a certain tattooed superstar. But after watching yet another dismal, uninspiring double-digit loss to Portland last night on the heels of two absolute beatdowns by San Antonio and Utah, it's time to let this voice be heard. Make. A. Move. Everyone has been saying that... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Hoops Happy

LAst Night's Action: Hoops Happy

Lakers 112, Rockets 101 - With the Rockets up by 21 points at halftime, it took a determined Lakers two extra periods to walk away with a victory. Kobe scored almost half of the team's points with 53. Yaozah! Looks like Houston forgot to read LAist. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Keep Winning

Ducks 2, Thrashers 1 - Anaheim continues to look like the best team in hockey after winning their tenth game in the past eleven. Teemu Selanne tallied both goals, the second just a minute after Atlanta evened the score in the third period. Mavericks 110, Lakers 101 - The Lakers lost in Dallas, falling half a game out of first place in the Pacific Division. Kobe Bryant had a game high 33, but Los... more ›

That Other Game in LA Yesterday
