Tonight (10pm) marks the fifth annual installment of VH-1's Hip Hop Honors, a program saluting the contributions of the genre's pioneers and players. This year's honorees include: De La Soul, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, Too Shot and Los Angeles' own Cypress Hill. For the last 20 years, the Hill has been rocking mics with their Cannabis laced brand of genre twisting music that combined hip-hop with elements or rock and Latin music. Sen......

In the war of who's going dominate the ticket selling market for concerts and events, Live Nation has only just begun to challenge West Hollywood based Ticketmaster. A recent deal will let Live Nation sell the majority of tickets for SMG, a Philadelphia company that manages more than 200 major venues including The Forum in Inglewood. "SMG, owned by private-equity firm American Capital Ltd., is estimated to be Ticketmaster's second-largest client," reports the Wall Street......

Jenny Lewis at Coachella 2008 (more photos here and here) | Photo by Joey Maloney/LAist Rumors are already floating around for next year's Coachella. "While an official announcement is still forthcoming," teases The Daily Swarm, "Coachella promoters Goldenvoice have begun booking artists for next year’s festival, which has been moved up two weeks from its regular last weekend of April slot to April 17–19, 2009." Of course, they later updated their post saying a......

Photo by alterna2 via Flickr Radiohead is in town and tonight is their second and last show at the Hollywood Bowl. If you're scrambling around to get tickets, you're probably seeing Craigslist posts like this asking for $700 a ticket in the Garden boxes. Most tickets seem to be going above face value in the $150-200 range and there are a good number of people begging for tickets and putting "$1" in their headlines.......

Today is the first day that West Hollywood based Ticketmaster is on their own. Its parent company IAC/InterActiveCorp spun off the ticket seller and three other internet sites to make five separate publicly traded companies. At the end of the article posted on the LA Times' website, it has this little nugget about one of the most frustrating parts regarding Ticketmaster: "[The Company] may consider revamping how it presents fees and charges, if not reduce......

If you happened to find yourself pushing your way through throngs of vintage Nike-clad hipsters and fedora-and-vested ladies on the Strip Wednesday night then you were probably caught up in the hype surrounding the joint performance between world class DJ-AM and former Blink 182 drummer impresario Travis Barker. With three concerts this summer at the Roxy under the alias TRV$-AM, the unprecedented alliance between rock and dance has forced LA to its knees with......

Don't be this guy Headed out to see Lili Hayden tonight? Thinking about checking out the Dresden Dolls on Monday? Well, if you're the lucky designated driver, or if you just want to check your drinking habit a little, bring along some earplugs - researchers in France recently found that loud music in bars or clubs encourages people to drink more. It appears as though the study only observed men, so the findings might......

One of the most exciting things to do in the summer is to go see some shows at the Hollywood Bowl. It has a variety of classical and popular shows and has been known to bridge the gap between the two genres with their collaborations between artist and orchestra (Remember this?). This season marks the end for Salonen as a music director and has added two talented conductors Bramwell Tovey and Thomas Wilkins. This season......

There is a damn good line up of bands happening this Friday night over in Glendale at The Scene at 9:00 p.m. And despite the Valley club's interesting change in direction with membership, this Friday is still the spirit of the old scene as it is the second-to-last show booked under old management. Friday's line up includes Death to Anders, Fol Chen, Solar Powered People and Layer with the Squaregirls will be DJing between sets.......

Ruiz most recently shared photos from an Airborne Toxic Event concert Dallas' favorite Alt-Country sons, the Old 97's, played a free and intimate gig at The Highlands in celebration of web-based Hunnypot Radio's New West night. KCRW just began to present "Sessions" at the intimate 500 seated person capacity Malibu Performing Arts Center. Don't call this a concert review because I am utterly and completely biased. I love Ani Difranco. I've loved her from the day I first laid eyes on her over 13 years ago and I hope to love her forever until the day I die. Last night's show at the Orpheum Theater was the thirteenth time I've seen her live, and now I love her even more. It was a relief to see Ani......

As the year enters week two, organizations are programming newer music, that which was composed in the last century. This weekend, the Los Angeles Philharmonic began their Concrete Frequency series to an excellent start wth Aaron Copland's "The City" played to film and Edgard Varèse's "Amériques." After the concert, hip-hop violinist duo Paul Dateh and inka one (we interviewed Paul him this summer) played in the lobby by the cafe while Breakestra funked up......

If you like classical new music, then why aren't you coming to Monday Evening Concerts? This is the real deal and a one of the kind music series in Los Angeles. So, yeah, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Superbad are the big releases this weekend. Honestly, I liked both movies well enough, but neither deserves the #1 slot in the weekly rundown like Battlestar Galactica: Razor does. Since new episodes of the best show on television won't air until March 2008, we'll have to make do with this 2-hour movie that follows the adventures of the Pegasus after the treacherous Cylon attack against the......

There's a lot of quality going on in classical this week in Los Angeles. However, the obvious choice for this week is Monday Evening Concert's season opener, Primitive Force (we spoke about Sunday......
