Galaxy Streak Ends, Chivas USA End Road Trip

The Galaxy undefeated streak came to an end last night as the visiting Real Salt Lake took a 2 - 0 victory at the Home Depot Center while Chivas USA prepares to close out its 2 game road trip this afternoon in Columbus.

Galaxy Salvage Tie

Galaxy midfielder Eddie Lewis scored late in the game to salvage a 1 - 1 tie for the Galaxy on Sunday afternoon against the Columbus Crew at the Home Depot Center. Lewis' opportunity came as a result of another strong performance by Galaxy 'keeper Donovan Ricketts. Ricketts made multiple quality saves throughout the game that kept the visitors at bay and the blue-and-gold within striking distance.

Chivas USA Streak Continues, Galaxy Host Crew

Chivas USA survived a relentless D.C. United attack last night to hang on for a 2 - 2 tie at the Home Depot Center.

Eight months after its start, Major League Soccer wraps up the 2008 campaign this Sunday as the Home Depot Center plays host to the MLS Cup championship game. This year's finale will feature a newly redesigned trophy and two unlikely competitors, Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls. Both sides are making their first trip to the Final, having waited 13 years to reach the milestone.

Earlier this year, Major League Soccer announced the selection of the Home Depot Center to host its yearly MLS Cup final game to be held next month. Galaxy fans should petition MLS to stop giving us this honor, given that it apparently curses the blue-and-gold. The Galaxy have failed to reach the final on each of the three previous occassions in which L.A. has hosted the MLS Cup final game.

It was a night of familiar storylines at last night's Galaxy game.

LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 11-1. The Dodgers continue to win against San Diego pitchers not named Peavy. For what seems like the first time this season, the Dodgers were able to consistently string hits together to get more than one run to score in an inning. Padres started Chris Young couldn't get ahead of any hitter, and Derek Lowe did what he does best: the sinker to induce ground outs retiring 20 of his last 21 hitters. Hopefully the Dodgers can get something going from this.
