After the field of 68 college basketball teams was announced yesterday for the annual Tournament, almost on cue was the annual backlash against the committee’s decisions. They weren’t arguing about the No. 1 seeds mind you - almost universally Ohio St., Pittsburgh, Kansas and Duke were accepted as among the best four teams in the country. All of this hubbub has been saved for Virginia Tech and Colorado.

LA Angels leads Texas Rangers 2-0. Ervin Santana (W, 17-9) tossed his fourth complete game and first shutout this season as he surpassed his career high in wins blanking the AL West leading Rangers. Hank Conger got things started for the Angels’ offense in the second inning with a leadoff triple and scored on Kevin Frandsen’s groundout. Hideki Matsui added another run in the fourth inning after leading off with a double, advancing to third on Mike Napoli’s fly ball to right field and Conger’s grounder.
