Earlier this month the Pasadena City Council voted to approve a plan to "remove 43 mature trees from along Colorado Boulevard-as well as side streets between Lake Avenue and Los Robles Boulevard" and replace them with younger trees that would cause less damage to city sidewalks.
Pasadena's Shady Trees May Get Reprieve
Going 70 in a 35 MPH Zone
The city knew of the speeding problems on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock, they even had set up a special LAPD task force to deal with it last year. After Wednesday night's crash that claimed the lives of three people and an unborn child leaving two critically injured, it will be set up again, according to the LA Times.
3 Dead, 2 Injured in Eagle Rock Street Racing Crash
An 11:00 p.m. street race on Colorado Blvd. (b/w Eagle Rock Blvd & Townsend Ave.) in Eagle Rock claimed the lives of three people last night. Included in the dead are a pregnant woman who was driving, a teenage girl in the back seat and a man who was ejected onto the street. News reports to not clearly indicate if they were involved in the race or not. Two others were transported to the hospital in "grave condition." The driver of another car involved in the accident, who was street racing, was arrested on the scene. The cars must have been going at a "high rate of speed," d'Lisa Davies said at the LA Fire Department to LAist when the crash first happened as details were just coming out. "It's pretty mangled too," she said of the car wrapped around the tree. A third car that fled the scene is suspected to be involved in the crash as well.

Old Town Pasadena: Dinner, Shopping, Shooting
Yesterday, as shoppers lined the streets of Old Town Pasadena, four shots rang out on Colorado Blvd. A 23-year old man, the intended victim, was hit once in the back. He's in stable condition at a nearby hospital. It is, the LA Times reports, the area's first shooting. Channel 9 happened to be there.
Three-Story Target Opens in Glendale and No One's There to Ride the Shiny Escalators
It was supposed to be a big deal. The signs have been up for months. Big, fancy Target on Colorado Blvd to open on July 29th. We got word that the "soft launch" of this super-new, super-big, super-special Target would take place this week. What's so special about this three-story Target? An excellent question.
Courtney Love to Sign Her Memoirs Tonight & Tomorrow
She's Miss World, Mrs. Cobain, Momma Bean, America's Sweetheart, and the Widow Courtney. While some of the punk and grunge icons of days gone by have faded out, Courtney Love's fire still rages despite the fact that so many just want her to sit still and shut up. But shutting up is one thing Ms. Love will never do. Thankfully. Just the opposite, in fact, as her memoirs Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney...

The Whole World is Watching
In case you haven't noticed, the World Cup championship started Friday. This LAist plans to watch the Footballers Wives marathon on BBC America this weekend in preparation (did you know that Tanya has a blog?).
The Metro that Wasn't
With construction of the Metro Orange Line - the dedicated busway stretching from NoHo to WoW (that's West of Winnetka, folks) -- breezing along at a clip that'll see it finished by September, northern 'burbs like Pasadena and Glendale are itching something fierce for a transit corridor that can see passengers safely through their own burgeoning yuppie districts. It's a still-theoretical jaunt from Gold Line to Orange Line that many are calling the "missing link." While we at LAist reserve our own missing-link comparisons for extremely hairy 7-foot-plus gentlemen with sub-par linguistic skills, we clearly agree there is a need. But where, oh where, do Pasadena and Glendale put a rail line to North Hollywood, assuming the two cities can scrape together the funding for such a project without the help of their big brother to the South?
