The Daily News is reporting that the LAUSD is preparing to put up for auction their surplus 1,540 cases of cake and brownie mix. The sweets are in violation of their 2003 Obesity Prevention policy that tips the proverbial hat to the increase in kids tipping the scales. The district's wake up and smell the coffeecake measure puts into play a number of dietary restrictions that beef up the fruit and vegetables offered while cutting back on the high-calorie and high-fat junk food treats at hand in vending machines and in school cafeterias. It seems they've found a link between good nutrition and scholastic achievement, and have realized that LA's school kids are just plain fat and lazy. LAist saw last year's Super Size Me; when hyperactive underachievers can name all of Colonel Sanders eleven herbs and spices but can't point to California on a map, clearly they have a problem. The LAUSD seems to be fine with making it someone else's problem while recouping a financial loss by letting the cake and brownie mix go to the highest bidder. Sold, American!
